Hello Michael,

Here is what's happening

at Market Wines this week!

Facebook  Twitter

The holiday season is upon us. Hanukkah starts tonight, Happy Hanukkah for all who celebrate. We do have a selection of Kosher wines. In two weeks, the Yule season starts and Christmas is in 18 days.

All of this means lots of celebrating. Our stock room is stuffed to the gills but it is not very big. We try to have plenty of your favorite wines in stock but suggest that if you are going to need a big quantity(more than a couple bottles) of your favorite wine that you call(513-744-9888) or email(marketwines@gmail.com) us ahead of time so we can make sure that we have enough. In most cases, if you contact us on Tuesday, we can get the wine in that week.

Great wine tasting this week, it should be because Micheal and Amy picked out the wines. We start with a great sparkling from Spain that is a perfect way to start off any holiday celebration. The second wine is an Orvieto from Italy, this versatile wine pairs well with many different foods. The first red is wonderful easy drinking Granacha from Spain that is easy drinking on its own or pairs well with a variety of foods. We finish up with an amazing Vino Nobile from Montepulciano, Italy.

Correction: Amy forgot to put one tiny little word in the newsletter but that one little word has huge ramifications. The word Eve was omitted when talking about holiday hours. So, to clarify, we will be closed on Christmas Day but will be open on Christmas EVE from 9:00 to 4:00. There will be no tasting that day but we will serve wine and beer by the glass. Do not worry there will be two days of wine tastings before Christmas, we will be having the rare Friday tasting on December 22nd.

Anna Codorniu Blanc de Blanc Cava, Spain $12.99

The history of Codorníu is the story of eighteen generations of a vine-growing family going back to 1551 making it the oldest winery in Spain. In 1659, the marriage between Anna, Codorníu's heiress, and Miquel Raventós, brought together two winemaking dynasties. Their heirs took the Raventós name, but Anna's surname, Codorníu would go on to become a brand name of international prestige that lives on today. In 1872, Josep Raventós made the first bottle of cava, applying the traditional method to a blend of the Penedès grape varieties: Macabeo, Xarel·lo and Parellada. Anna de Codorniu is made in homage to the woman who changed the history of our winery. Her mastery, elegance and authenticity are reflected in the cava that inherited her name. In 1984 the first vintage went on sale, a pioneer at the time for being the first to incorporate the Chardonnay variety into the blend.

Palazzone Vignarco Orvieto Classico, Italy $13.99

In 1969 the Dubini family bought the property “Palazzone”, constructed by Cardinal Teodorico at the bidding of Pope Boniface VIII as a hostel for pilgrims on their way to Rome to celebrate the Jubilee of 1300 A.D. Angelo Dubini decided to plant 25 hectares to vines of varieties that he expected would make wine of great complexity and character. In 1982, his two sons, Giovanni and Lodovico, made the first small vintage from these grapes. The Palazzone estate in Orvieto is practically the last bastion of estate-bottled wine in this historic Umbrian appellation that dates back to Etruscan times. This wonderful Orvieto Classico is  mostly Procanico and Grechetto (80%) with a small part of Verdello and Malvasia.

Punctum Galerna Garnacha, Spain $14.99

Punctum Biodynamic Family Vineyards was founded in 2005 as a family venture by three siblings. Today, more than fifteen years later, it’s a winery dedicated to organic and biodynamic wine with grapes grown in their own vineyards, located in the town of Las Pedroñeras, Cuenca. It is believed that winemaking originated here in Roman times, and it quickly developed during the medieval period. The soil, clay-based and rich in limestone, helps retaining water, essential for the health of the vines. This Garnacha (the Spanish term for Grenache) is a slightly more rustic take on the varietal.

Poggio Stella Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Italy $19.99

Cooperativa Vecchia Cantina di Montepulciano was established in 1937 and now has around 400 members, who have chosen to work together with passion and respect for the territory and with a common goal: to guarantee increasingly high-quality products at an affordable price. The vineyards cover the territories of the Tuscan municipalities of Montepulciano, Pienza, Cetona, Torrita di Siena, Sinalunga, Foiano della Chiana, Castiglion Fiorentino, Cortona and Chiusi, as well as the Umbrian municipalities of Città della Pieve and Castiglion del Lago. Poggio Stella perfectly mirrors the evolution of the winery. This Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is a blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo.
