A PRAYER FOR OCTOBER
BY KATIE HIGGINS '99, VICE PRESIDENT OF MISSION
“God never asks of us the impossible
but only to achieve the justice possible
in the imperfect world of the here and now.” (Bishop Mark J. Seitz)

Spirit of God,
We give thanks for your presence among us in our imperfect world.
Transform our hearts that we may love as You love--
unconditionally and with abounding mercy and compassion.
Give us a spirit of courage and humility
as we strive each day to be faithful to You and
to Your Gospel call to work for justice and peace in the here and now.
Amen.

The Magnificat Circle of Prayer was established two years ago and is made up of members of the Magnificat community who wish to pray for the community's intentions throughout the school year. Prayer intentions (which are submitted online) are circulated weekly and members of the Circle are encouraged to pray The Magnificat daily for these intentions. Please click here if you wish to join the Circle of Prayer!

STUDENTS EXPLORE ENGINEERING, FILM, DANCE, &
CULTURE IN NEW AND INNOVATIVE WAYS THIS YEAR

Students in the Intro to Mechanical Engineering class offered by Motogo have adapted well to COVID-safe programming. Each student is taking apart and rebuilding their own vintage 1970s Honda CB 350 motorcycle engine in the converted Magnificat convent garage.

Here, Sarah Hastings '22 successfully removes the camshaft!
FIRST MAGNIFICAT FILM FESTIVAL TO BE RELEASED THIS SEMESTER
With the fall musical being moved to the spring, the Performing Arts department invited students to submit screenplay proposals to produce Magnificat's first-ever film festival. Three different student groups are working with faculty "producers" on three films that will be released this November or December. The project gives student actors, directors, and tech crews the opportunity to explore and deepen their production skills.
DANCE 1 & 2 STUDENTS PREPARE FOR A SEMESTER OF CHOREOGRAPHY
During the first month of the semester, Dance 1 & 2 focuses on conditioning, anatomy for dance, and the importance of stretching and use of breath. Students are able to participate either in-person or via live stream as they prepare as a group to learn different styles of choreography throughout the semester, beginning with Ballet this month.
SPANISH STUDENTS DRAW ENCOURAGEMENT FROM INFLUENTIAL LEADERS
As part of the World Language & Cultures department's new unit on Wellness, Señora Hanicak's students chose a quote in Spanish that spoke to them personally and created artwork to explain how the words inspire them to live their lives each day. The art will decorate the World Language learning spaces as a source of inspiration throughout the year.
PRAYER SERVICES AND RETREATS TAKE ON A NEW FORMAT
For both the Opening Prayer Service and the St. Francis of Assissi Season of Creation Prayer Service(first and third photos), Campus Ministry faculty and student leaders prerecorded prayers, readings, reflections, and music in order for our school community to participate together virtually during Advisory time.

Many Magnificat students traditionally participate in our Art, Nature, and Wellness Retreats during their junior or senior year. Since many of those retreats had to be cancelled last spring, Campus Ministry is running mini versions of these retreats throughout the year so students can take time away for prayer, reflection, and community-building.
SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS ON AND OFF CAMPUS
On Saturday, September 26, 19 members of Students in Sustainability and Science faculty members Heidi Paul and Dagmar Kubasek volunteered for the Alliance for the Great Lakes Adopt-A-Beach program at Huntington Beach in Bay Village (first and second photos). Over just two hours, they collected 28 pounds of trash and 5 pounds of recycling!

Our Seeds of Service Club has been hard at work at work in the Hoop House harvesting end-of-summer and early-fall vegetables for Meals on Wheels and to be used by Chef Brant in the Magnificat kitchen (third photo)!

THANKS TO ALL WHO JOINED US FOR SUNSET YOGA!
The weather was perfect on September 21 for the Alumnae Board’s latest Sunset Yoga event. Jackie Walsh ’08, owner of Hope Yoga in Fairview Park, led more than 30 alumnae and friends in some deep stretching and breathing on Karnatz Family Field. All of our guests left relaxed and revitalized with parting gifts, including a voucher for a free yoga class at Hope Yoga! The event raised $405 for the Angels-in-Blue fund, which provides Magnificat families with assistance for school-related expenses, such as uniforms and school lunches. We are thankful, too, for everyone’s cooperation with COVID-related precautions!
