Celebrating Black History Month this February
During Black History Month, we honor the history and achievements of Black Americans, recognize their adversity, and encourage the study of Black History. To celebrate, we are flying a commemorative Black History Month flag at City facilities through February 28.
Join us outside the Signal Hill Public Library on Saturday, February 19, 1:00 p.m - 2:00 p.m for an interactive drum circle with Chazz Ross. Celebrate Black History Month and discover the rhythm of the African djembe drums. All instruments are provided, and this activity is free. Registration is required, please call the Library at 562-989-7323.
Pick up your take-home craft kit at the Signal Hill Public Library! We're offering two kit options. Learn about Black mosaic artist Alma Woodsey Thomas with a special paper mosaic art kit. Or, create a macrame coaster with our no-sew, beginner-friendly craft for teens and adults. Kits are in limited supply, first-come, first-serve.

COVID-19: Latest Information
Please continue to keep yourself, your family, and your community safe. Please get a COVID-19 vaccine and booster dose and stay home if you're not feeling well. When away from home, wear a well-fitting mask and remember to socially distance. While
the State is making changes to its mask mandate, masks continue to be required at indoor public places and outdoor large events in L.A. County and Long Beach (regardless of vaccination status) for the time being.
Booster doses are a key tool in our continued fight against COVID-19. Public health officials and experts maintain that boosted individuals have a much lower risk of severe illness and hospitalization from COVID-19. Everyone 12 years and older can get one. Eligibility for a booster dose (PDF) is five months after your second dose of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, and two months after receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

You can get a free booster dose at many major pharmacies and grocery stores, at many local clinics, and at several City of Long Beach vaccine clinics. If you have questions or concerns, please speak with your health care provider. Learn more about vaccine / booster opportunities at cityofsignalhill.org/vaccineinfo.
