St. Anne Catholic Church
A "Few" Words from Fr. Robert
Safe Haven Sunday
The Diocese of Savannah has designated next week as “Safe Haven Sunday” and Bishop Parkes has asked everyone in the diocese to think, pray and be informed about internet safety. We all know that inappropriate material on the internet can cause harm to a person, their family and their children. I fear the Church has been silent for too long on these issues which are present in so many of our homes and families. The diocese has provided a resource book to hand out to each family after Mass.

A Novena Prayer to St. Joseph
Pope Francis has declared this to be the year of Saint Joseph. In recognition of this special year, our parish will offer a novena of prayers to St. Joseph before every Mass starting March 10th.

Thanks!
Recently a nurse told a friend, “I received my shot and now I’m going to find a way to volunteer to give other people the shot.” This friend referred the nurse to our parish and she is in the process of signing up to help us with the vaccine clinic. We have also had several of our medical professionals reach out to us and say that they are willing to help our parish to hold vaccine clinics. I am grateful to each and every one of them for their willingness to serve in this capacity. There are still spots available. If you are a medical professional and willing to help, please let us know by calling Kimberly Kaup in the Parish Office at 706-561-8678 or visit www.stannecsg.com/vaccine-clinic and sign up online. Obviously the Health Department is asking all volunteers for some documentation and to complete four short training modules. Thank you for your patience in this regard. There have also been some other volunteers who are not medical professionals but are willing to help out with registration and other tasks. Kimberly is keeping that list so we will be able to call on them when the time comes.

This Week’s Lenten Activity
This week, we are encouraging every family in our parish to either:
  • Attend Stations of the Cross at 5:30 p.m. on Friday evenings OR
  • Watch Forgiven on www.Formed.org as a family, especially Forgiven for Children - How to Make a Great Confession.

St. Anne in the News
A Great Victory Indeed - Last Saturday, there was a jubilant crowd in The Land (our school’s gym) to celebrate our basketball team’s last second victory over Southwest Atlanta Christian School to win their Sweet 16 slot and proceed to the Elite 8 in the State Tournament. I was pleased and grateful that so many people from all over the country and even in Italy watched the game on Viking Live, our school’s live stream. I was so happy as our Pacelli students ran onto the court at the buzzer and congratulated our team. There were also several local TV stations present and all of the very positive media attention certainly helps our school’s admissions program. Heartfelt thanks to Athletic Director and Head Vikings Basketball Coach Corry Black and everyone who supports our Vikings Athletics program.

A City Set on a Hill Cannot Be Hidden
Last week when I turned on the news, low and behold there was Katie Byers, Director of St. Anne Community Outreach, speaking about our rental assistance program. It should come as no surprise that the need is greater now than pre-Covid times because many have lost their jobs or had their salaries cut. The news program also interviewed Ms. Henderson about the help she and her family received from our rental assistance program. The witness she shared and the gratitude she showed proved that for now we are definitely on the right track. The expanded rental assistance program is made possible from grants being provided by both government and local community organizations. They see the good work that is being done and are happy to share their financial support. Once again heartfelt thanks for all who work in our Outreach Center.

The Parish Scholarship Program
Just a reminder that our church supports the parish families who attend our beautiful school with the Parish Scholarship Program. On average each child receives a $1,000 scholarship. There are only two requirements: that the family applying is registered in our parish and that they contribute $10 a week in support of the work of the Church. The vast majority of those applying easily meet these requirements. This is just another way to support this important work of the Church.

Opportunity to Offer the Bread and Wine at Mass
This week’s gift of Bread & wine was donated by Vera Wojtysiak in loving memory of her son-in-law, Wayne Attaway. If you would like to offer the bread and wine for Mass in honor of or in memory of a loved one, please call the Parish Office to schedule your weekend. Your offering of $50 will help defray the cost.
