Rector's Ramblings
Twenty-four days. Yes. I’m counting. Twenty-four days from now I will begin my sabbatical leave, which will carry me through to mid-August. I’m not burned out, but I am tired, and I’ve been looking forward to this opportunity for more than two years. It was in the spring of 2019 that we submitted our grant application for funding this time away. I enjoyed working with a committee at Christ Church on the process. Fortunately, most of the intention of the sabbatical leave has continued with the reschedule from last year to this year, although some of the pieces have moved a bit. I’ll recap our plans for you here, although a letter will also be sent with other details in the coming days, as well.

Please join us for in-person worship in the Christ Church tent each Sunday for BCP 1928 Worship at 8:00 am, Family Worship at 10:20 am, or Rite I Worship at 11:15 am. All rules for safe gathering will be followed, including wearing masks, maintaining 6 feet of distance between members of different households and limiting the overall group size.

The 8:00 and 11:15 am services are open to all who come, so pre-registration is not necessary, but we ask that you call the church office Tuesday - Thursday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, or Friday, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm, to sign up for the 10:20 am Family Service.

Drive-Through Communion will begin immediately at the conclusion of the Livestream service, at approximately 10:15 am and conclude at 11:15 am. All are welcome to join us there. Please wear your masks and if you have dogs, bring them along for a blessing and a treat, too!

Easter Sunday at Christ Church
Easter Sunday could not have been more beautiful on April 4, 2021 and joy ran like a current through all who were present at Christ Church that day, celebrating the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. It was good to see so many faces and even the masks worn to protect fellow parishioners and friends from illness could not disguise the happiness that beamed from the bright eyes of children and adults alike. Many thanks to all who contributed to make this Holy Day a happy homecoming for so many of the Christ Church family and a welcoming place for our visitors and guests. If you weren’t able to be with us on Easter Sunday or would just like to look back on the happy memories of that day, check out the photos HERE.

Graduate Recognition Sunday
On Sunday May 2, we will be recognizing our graduating high school seniors and college students during our 9:15 am online worship service. If your child or grandchild will be a 2021 graduate, please contact Julie Hancock at [email protected] with the name of your graduate and information about where he or she went to high school or college and at any post-graduation plans. We would also like a photo of your graduate, to share with the parish. Please send in your information to Julie by Tuesday, April 27, 2021.
Mothers' Day Sunday
Mother’s Day will be celebrated on Sunday, May 9 and this year, we’d like to honor our mothers with a special musical tribute during our online morning worship service, at 9:15 am that day.

We would like to show photos of all of our beautiful mothers and the women who have been like mothers to us. If you have photos that you would like to add to the album of images we collected in 2020, (and will be showing again this year), please send them to Julie Hancock at [email protected], by Thursday, April 29, and we will include your mother in a special Mother’s Day visual presentation. If possible, please share your mother’s name with your submitted photos. (Names will not be shown during the visual presentation, but will be listed in the service bulletin, for which you will receive an email link.)
Formation
Wednesday Men's Study Group
The Men's Study Group, which meets on Wednesday mornings, at 10:30 am, has concluded their Lenten study and will be on break until after Easter. Then they will begin reading The Screwtape Letters Study Guide: A Bible Study on the C. S. Lewis book, The Screwtape Letters, by Alan Vermilye. If you are interested in joining the group, please contact Bill Abbate at [email protected] to get ZOOM sign-in information.
Season of Easter Devotions
Forward Movement is offering 50 Easter reflections this year, written by Father Scott Gunn. Most days, the reflections are rooted in the assigned scripture readings of the Episcopal Church. Weekday readings come from the Book of Common Prayer for the first week of Easter and Lesser Feasts & Fasts 2006 after that. Sunday readings come from the Revised Common Lectionary (chosen from among years A, B, or C). To mix things up a bit, Musical Mondays are based on an Easter anthem or hymn. Throwback Thursdays offer reflections on some of the writings of church leaders of the first few centuries.

Join us for these Eastertide reflections at https://50days.org, as we proclaim the astounding Good News that Jesus Christ has triumphed.
Daily Devotionals
If you are a regular reader of the Forward Day by Day devotionals, you may pick up a copy in the church office during regular business hours Tues. - Thurs., 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, or Fri., 9:00 am - 2:00 pm. You can also find the devotionals online HERE.

ECW Tour of Homes Outreach Campaign 2021: Exciting Update!
Your ECW is delighted to announce that the 2021 Tour of Homes outreach fundraiser has already received donations from 114 generous benefactors, amounting to $24,971!

That puts us at 83% of our intended goal of $30,000! Thank you, friends and fellow parishioners for your overwhelming generosity!

Now we’re hoping to raise the remainder of our goal and possibly MORE, so that we can help as many of the worthwhile organizations that minister to our local community as possible. You are invited to be part of this important initiative by mailing your gift to Christ Church ECW Tour Outreach P.O. Box 20292 St. Simons Island, GA 31522.

You can also visit the TOH website to make your gift online at christchurchtourofhomes.org

Tour organizers (ECW and prior year leaders) can be reached by email at [email protected]
ECW Scholarship 2021 - Deadline is April 21, 2021
Christ Church ECW is still accepting applications for the ECW Scholarship for young women for the 2021-2022 academic year. This scholarship is available to graduating seniors or those who have graduated from high school and want to further their education. The applicant must be from Glynn or McIntosh County and an active Episcopalian. The application deadline is April 21, 2021. Get more information HERE.
Lawn Docent Needed to Greet Our Visitors
With the arrival of spring and visitors to our grounds, the Docent Team has revived our Docents on the Lawn program. Please come join us! We set up in the tent from 2:00 – 4:30 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Working in two-person teams, we greet our visitors, answer questions, and sell cookbooks, history booklets, and other items. It is a lovely and fun way to get outside for a while, chat with our guests, and hopefully generate a little revenue for the ECW.

Each team has at least one docent who is familiar with the church history and historic area of the cemetery; greeters are friendly folks who provide a welcome and help with sales. Many greeters end up becoming docents after learning more about our history.

For more information contact Susan Garrett at 912-230-8566 or [email protected]. Additional docents and greeters are needed and welcomed!!

Thank You for Your Support of the Backpack Buddies!
The Backpack Buddies ministry has ramped back up after Easter break and will continue full-throttle until the end of the school year. Many thanks to our Backpack Buddy sponsors, food donors and the ever-faithful volunteers, who keep this program going week after week, month after month, year after year! Well done team!

All are welcome to “adopt” a Backpack Buddy at any time during the school year. A sponsorship for a child is $100, which will supply the youngster with weekend food bags for the entire school year. You may donate online HERE, (choose Backpack Program from the drop-down menu), or by check (just mail it to Christ Church, at 6329 Frederica Road St. Simons Island, GA 31522; memo line, Backpack Buddies).

If you have any questions about the Backpack Buddies program or are interested in joining the packing and distribution teams, please contact Susan Shipman at [email protected].
Sweet Reward for Burroughs Molette Readers
On Friday, April 2, the hardworking students and staff sponsors of the Burroughs Molette Elementary School Advanced Reader Program were rewarded with a Fuse Frozen Yogurt party, to celebrate their accomplishments. The party was initiated through the Christ Church Mission and Outreach Committee and sponsored by Glynn Episcopal Ministries. According to Burroughs Molette Media Specialist, Nettie Alexander, both the kids and the staff loved it!
