Early Middle College March 2022

Choosing the Right College or University is Challenging.

All students are faced with the challenge of what they will do after they graduate. One question that arises frequently is what college are you going to attend?

ECAC promotes the importance of college visits when making this decision. We were excited to be able to get students back on campuses for tours this year.

Many components go into choosing a college or university. First and foremost is to find a college known for the program of study/major you want to pursue. Is the school accredited in your degree? Next, decide if you want to live on campus, off campus, or at home and commute. The cost of tuition, room & board, and fees is usually one of the top three deciding factors so comparing scholarships and financial aid packages becomes vital.

To help make this decision easier, we strongly suggest touring the college or university you are considering attending. Getting your boots on the campus makes a world of difference. This is your opportunity to talk with admissions, faculty, and students.

For the Class of 2023, our Readiness Time has been focused on career exploration through YouScience, identifying priorities when choosing a college, picking colleges based on these priorities, exploring their websites and virtual visits, creating comparison worksheet, and then visiting these schools.

Early College schedules two visits each year and tries to rotate which schools these are so each year students can get a different experience.

Twelve students from the Early College program attended the Grand Valley State University college tour, where they met with an admissions officer, took a guided tour of the campus, and ended at the food commons for lunch. Students were grateful for the opportunity, even with the cold weather and wet pavement. We can feel their excitement as they begin this college search process and are asking "where next?"

Parents, we encourage you and your child to schedule a couple visits this Spring and Summer. Investing this time will help make this process a little less stressful for students. They will gain valuable insight and information as they plan their transition from LMC to their next school.

Class of 2025

Interviews are completed! Fifty-two students from six school districts took the initiative to apply to the Early College Allegan County program. They have been notified of their acceptance at their home schools this past week. We are excited to welcome our 8th Cohort to be a Red Hawk and part of the Early College family

Class of 2024

Before college spring break, students met as a group with their mentors and played games and also decorated bags for Kids Food Basket.

They have been working hard and it was good to see them unwind.

Thank you to the mentors for investing your time in the Class of 2024. Mentors include Vivianna Espino, Kenison Bosma, Katherine Labonte, Joe Allen, Riley Landrigan, Kendalynn Haskins, Jalynn Dean, and Nova Plumley.

Class of 2023/2024 Cross Curricular Project

Dr. Patti Youngs' English 102 class is spending the remainder of the semester focusing on a group project to develop students' professional writing, research skills, interview skills, and presentation skills. The assignment requires students to create a School/Community Proposal.

They have been challenged to identify a social issue faced in their community today and explore the responsibility of society and the role of civil discourse in addressing controversial topics. As a vital part of collecting data, they are interviewing students from Miss McNitt's Sociology 101 class as well as other community "informants" to see what they feel are pressing issues in the community.
