The real history of Mother’s Day in the United States might surprise you.
Three women—who championed efforts toward better health, welfare, peace, and love—contributed to the day we all celebrate on the second Sunday in May each year.
The Mother’s Day holiday in the United States wasn’t born out a desire to simply treat mothers to a day off or to buy them gifts! It essentially began as a women’s movement to better the lives of other Americans.
The creation of a national Mother’s Day is primarily attributed to three women: Ann Reeves Jarvis, Julia Ward Howe, and Ann’s daughter, Anna M. Jarvis. Mother’s Day endures and evolves. Just as Mother’s Day was the creation of multiple women, the modern Mother’s Day celebrates the varied roles of mothers today.
We commemorate the many ways mothers have fought to better the lives of their children, from social welfare to non-violence. We also honor the way mothers have raised and nurtured their children with love and courage.
I hope all Mothers' can spend a joyous time with their 2 legged and 4 legged loved ones this Mother’s Day’s.
Blessings,
Liz Kennedy

Kari Cook - 3rd VP -- Ways and Means
As we welcome the spring season, I'd like to wish all of you beautiful mothers a "Happy Mother's Day".
.... and speaking of mothers day, I'd like to remind everyone that we will be raffling off the beautiful jewelry sets pictured below during our May luncheon, so come prepared to buy your winning tickets!
The Easter baskets seemed to be a big hit at our last meeting, a HUGE thank you to everyone who purchased tickets and participated in the basket drawings. Your willingness to support our club means a LOT!
During last month's luncheon a survey was put on the tables, and I asked everyone in attendance to please complete it in order to help the Ways & Means team know how to best provide fundraising opportunities that you would best excited about in the future.
I'd like to thank everyone who provided their feedback to this survey, as it is so very helpful. If you missed the meeting, or didn't have a chance to fill it out while there, don't you worry you can still complete it. Click the link below to take the Fundraising Interests Survey:
