Note From Mr. Atkins
Families,

Seeing so many members of our community together yesterday at our first Field Day was truly special. We have waited a long time to be together like that, and it was good for the collective soul. Keep fingers crossed that our wild May weather will allow for another incredible Field Day on Wednesday for our Kinder and 1st Grade students and families.

A reminder that continuations will take place the last week of school with our beloved 5th Graders going first on Wednesday, May 26th at 10am. We are always sad to see students go, but we are extremely excited for what awaits them in Middle School. Their future is BRIGHT! Another thanks to our PTA, who will be providing them with a special lunch on May 21st. (5th Graders will be finished after the ceremony. They do not need to return to school, though they are welcome to if desired.) Kindergarten and ECE families will celebrate their continuations here on Thursday, May 27th (ECE in the morning, Kinder in the afternoon). All continuations will take place on our field, and seating will be limited. DPS health and safety protocols will be in place (all guests must remain masked). Because of the required adaptations this year, we also must say that these ceremonies are weather-permitting.

For those returning next year, we will be sending some resource sheets home at the end of the year, and some reading challenges that students can participate in. Students returning can keep their devices over the summer and continue to have access to some of their educational apps. If you are not returning next year, we ask that your child's Chromebook and charger be returned on or before the last day of school.

In alignment with our Black Excellence Plan and goals, I've enjoyed speaking with some of our Black families these last few weeks. We have had very productive conversations, and I hope more families can join me at our upcoming discussion. See below for details.

As mentioned last week, we have a change in our before/after care for this upcoming school year. While we are so grateful for our partnership with Leading Edge over the last few years, we are excited to offer a more affordable option with enrichment opportunities for more students. Stay tuned for more details.

Please remember to stay vigilant and safe practicing the important COVID precautions, and remember that our individual decisions have impacts on our broader community. We want to make sure we can finish the year together!

Don't forget to continue scrolling down for other updates.

Sincerely,

Michael Atkins
Nota del Sr. Atkins

Familias

Atentamente,

Michael Atkins

Helpful Information for Next Year

As we welcome new families next year, we have shared the following information which we thought you might need as well. School will start a week later this Fall, our first day will be August 23rd.

Field Day!
** Wednesday, May 19, 9:30-11:30am: Field Day (1st Grade)
** Wednesday, May 19, 1-3pm: Field Day (Kinder)

We're excited for a modified Field Day to take place this Spring! Thank you to Mr. Rossi and our parent volunteers for making it happen.

Remote students are invited to attend and participate with their class at their assigned time (above). Remote students will not be able to attend class in the building that day, so parents/guardians must be able to drop-off/pick up at the start and end of the Field Day event for their grade.

Students are allowed to have parents/guardians attend (no more than 4 people per student), but all participants/attendees must wear a mask. Students will also celebrate with paletas (popsicles) thanks to our generous PTA!

**Please make sure your child brings a water bottle! A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen can also be very helpful in the heat.

Restaurant Night

Before/After School Care Next Year

Stay tuned for more information about our new partnership for Before/After School Childcare. We anticipate it being a more affordable option with additional opportunities for enrichment. We have been grateful for the partnership with Leading Edge and the way they have served our community these past few years, and we look forward to new opportunities that we hope will serve additional members of our community.
Parent Survey from DPS
Please help us by completing the DPS End of Year Family Survey HERE. This won't take much of your time and is a helpful tool in the District's planning (as well as ours).
Please Return Library Books
We are excited to have our Library open once again this Fall, but we need your help! If you were here last year and your child checked out books prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, please look around your house for these books and send them back to your child's teacher so we can check these in and add them back to our collections. Any books that we can't find will have to be replaced, which means fewer new books added later. We have received many exciting new books that we can't wait for our students to enjoy, and we look forward to adding even more!

Reminder: Please return any Stedman Library books to the school!
