Shane's New Bike Business
|
|
Pictured above are John and Shane.
Shane has recently started refurbishing old bicycles that have been left to the side of the road for garbage, with the help of his staff. He wanted to do this as a pastime during the lockdown, and donate the refurbished bikes to people supported by Community Living Essex County.
John had discovered that his bike had been stolen, and when Shane found out he was very upset for John, but eager to get to work to get him a new bike!
Within a couple of days, Shane and his staff found a bike on the side of the road, refurbished it with old parts they already had, and delivered it to John!
John was grateful and excited to try out his new wheels!

Virtual Supports: Wellness Wednesday
|
|
Over the last couple of months, our Virtual Supports have been increasing our mental wellness during our Wellness Wednesday sessions.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Every week, participants will be continuing to learn important ways to keep their mental health as healthy and well as their physical health. Topics that have been discussed during the Wellness Wednesday sessions include healthy eating and living, the importance of positive thinking and most recently how to tackle emotions in our daily lives.
Below is an image of the message boards that were given to our participants for a session that focused on positive messages. Many were shared with participants, and each participant then created their own to have in their home as a daily reminder.

Prime Minister Trudeau had assured Canadians that the vaccine rollout is on track. It’s predicted that 40% of the entire population will be vaccinated this week, which is a few weeks earlier than the vaccine plan released in December. Last Friday a record was set with 400,000 doses given Canada wide.
Locally the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is continuing to expand the list of eligible residents who can book a vaccine appointment at wevax.ca. The list of eligible residents includes:
- People 30 years and older
- People 18 years and older at highest risk, high risk or at risk, which includes people with an intellectual disability or living in hot spot postal codes
- People 18 years and older can sign up to be on the vaccine waitlist on the online booking system. You must select the day you are available and will only be called if a time slot becomes available.
-
Essential workers Group 2, which is a large group that includes pharmacy, grocery and restaurant employees, transportation, etc. For a complete list go to www.wechu.org
Many who have received their 1st dose of the vaccine are wondering about obtaining their 2nd dose. The health unit has announced that you will be notified when eligible to book your 2nd dose. When booking you will be able to choose the location, date and time from available appointments posted.

“Isn’t it nice that tomorrow is a new day, with no mistakes in it…yet?”
Anne Shirley in the Anne of Green Gables
As we look ahead to a post-pandemic world, families can have hope.
The word “yet” is always so hopeful for me, despite what has occurred in the past, we can look forward to the future, where what will occur has not been written yet.
The post-pandemic world provides us with opportunities to make things better for all of our loved ones. At Ensemble, we are looking to continue to refine and re-imagine what we do, to best support our families as well. Supports are being re-imagined, re-designed, becoming more individualized, and this is a good thing for all our loved ones.
Granted, many of these changes are still in their infancy, but the promise of what they hold for our loved ones, gives me great hope, that in a post-Covid-19 world, our loved ones will have more opportunities to have their best life possible.
