Elder Announcement

April 15, 2022

Dear Skillman Church family,

With much prayer, careful review of the Advisory Committee report, and numerous conversations with church members and others, the Elders continue to believe Skillman Church of Christ should join with The Hills Church of Christ. But our work and a final recommendation to the congregation is not complete. We have recently notified The Hills there are several details of an agreement that still need to be addressed, including questions that many of you have raised. The encouragement you have provided to patiently and more deliberately evaluate this opportunity is bearing good fruit. Our current hope and expectation is that most, if not all, of our questions will be addressed by the end of next week. The Elders can then report back to you with detailed findings and make a final recommendation to the Skillman congregation.

As you know, we have also scheduled a “Town Hall” meeting in our Chapel at 3014 Skillman St. in Dallas on April 27, 2022 to discuss the Elders’ recommendation. We will develop an agenda, have a professional facilitator, and ask in advance for questions, presentations or materials you may want to share at the Town Hall. The Elders will also provide more information to you in advance of the Town Hall regarding the Elders’ final recommendation.

We have further announced that a vote of the congregation on the Elders recommendation will occur on May 15, 2022. That formal voting process is being developed now in coordination with lawyers who will ensure it is fair, transparent, and meets the requirements of Skillman’s Bylaws and Texas law. Those laws require up to 30 days advance notice of a member vote. Although the Elders are not yet making a final recommendation to join with The Hills, we did want to inform you that a vote on May 15 is still planned at this time. If the nature of any final recommendation from the Elders and applicable laws require that we provide a further notice and slightly postpone the vote to a later date, we will do that, as needed. We plan to keep you updated and communicate with you better.

Both Skillman and The Hills are made up of Christ-centered, disciple-making followers of Christ, to God’s glory. Our eldership will continue to patiently listen to you and deliberately move forward. We look forward to presenting a final recommendation in the very near future, followed by a vote that will lead to a renewed sense of energy, a pathway for the Skillman membership to enjoy the many things we love about Skillman today, and enlarging our discipleship efforts and service to this community.

Please continue to pray to discern God’s will in this matter, pray that His will be done, that our will be subject to His, and that all things be done in love, with grace, and to His glory.  And we hope you will plan to join our Bible study and worship service with the Skillman family this Easter Sunday.

In His Service,

Shane, Craig, and David
