Impact of Russia Sanctions in the Asia Pacific

Recent unprecedented events in Ukraine have prompted one of the strongest sanctions reactions by the U.S. government in recent history. As new sanctions announcements by the U.S. and other countries continue to be announced, businesses, supply chains, financial systems, and large swaths of the global economy are greatly affected. But, what will be the greatest impact of these sanctions regimes on the Asia Pacific region?

Subject matter experts in sanctions compliance, Josh Shrager and Mark Nakhla of Kharon are former Treasury and State Department officials with vast experience in sanctions and illicit financial activity policies.

Topics to be covered will include:
  • Preparing for what may lie ahead
  • Assessing risk
  • Best practices in financial crime and trade compliance
  • Geopolitical impacts in the Asia Pacific region
  • Sharing of information and insights gleaned from investigative research across the Russian milieu and business environment

Unique Entity Identifier Update
Government Transition from DUNS Number to New Unique Entity Identifier Will Occur on April 4, 2022
By April of 2022, the federal government will stop using the DUNS number to uniquely identify entities. At that point, entities doing business with the federal government will use a Unique Entity Identifier (SAM) created in SAM.gov. They will no longer have to go to a third-party website to obtain their identifier. This transition allows the government to streamline the entity identification and validation process, making it easier and less burdensome for entities to do business with the federal government. DPHSS Rules and Regulations Governing Issuance of Sanitary Permits, Fees and Administrative Penalty.
The Guam Hotel & Restaurant Association announced to its members that the The Department of Public Health and Social Services' (DPHSS) Division of Environmental Health (DEH) filed the rules and regulations governing the issuance of Sanitary Permits, fees, and administrative penalty for approval with the Guam Legislature. It was noted that these rules and regulations lapsed without a vote by the Senators, therefore, passed into law by default through the AAA process.
