Let's kick off Feel Good February by highlighting more individuals, groups, and camps who are helping create a brighter future for the children SCOPE serves!
JUSTIN MAYER, Board President
Since 2018 Justin has served as the SCOPE Board President, having been a board member for many years prior. As the owner and director of Timber Lake West Camp, Justin is dedicated to ensuring that the benefits of overnight summer camp be accessible for as many children as possible. Fun Fact: Our Executive Director, Molly Hott Gallagher and Justin Mayer used to Co-Chair SCOPE Young Professional events back in the early 2000's! That's some long-time commitment to the organization.
After experiencing firsthand the magic of camp at Camps Equinunk & Blue Ridge, Emma and Sophie wanted to help ensure that all children had to opportunity to attend camp. As members of SCOPE's Junior Leadership Council, Emma and Sophie launched a SCOPE Club at Lynbrook High School and have spearheaded a wide variety of successful give back initiatives including Talenthood Tutoring, Baseball Boxes, and various Dine & Donate events.
The Scott J. Beigel Memorial Fund was established in 2018, to honor and celebrate the life of Scott J. Beigel. Scott was the social studies teacher, cross-country coach, and long-time advocate of camp, who died a hero in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting on February 14, 2018. As a result of the love and efforts of Scott's friends and family, in 2019 the Fund succeeded in providing the gift of overnight summer camp to 22 children, impacted by gun violence, by providing the financial access to attend two SCOPE partner camps. Camp Cell-A-Bration is a week-long camp for kids aged 6-14 with sickle cell disease. Although these children battle this life-threatening disease every day, Camp Cell-A-Bration want to make sure they enjoy being KIDS!
