WEEKLY HIGHLIGHT

Sixth Grade Mock Trial

"In 6th grade we have spent time in Civics class examining the Judicial Branch of Government, as well as the rights that an individual has should they be charged with a criminal offense. Additionally, in English we have been reading Just Mercy, the true story of an innocent man on death row. As we examine America's criminal Justice system, its many advantages, and its pitfalls, we thought it would be fun to step into an actual court case. Students became lawyers and sought to string together a narrative to defend their clients, witnesses who sought to tell their side of the story, and jurors who sought to judge the case objectively and without bias. As we end the year we will reflect on our roles as citizens in America, and consider the ways we guide our nation to live up to the ideals described in the constitution." - Donte Milligan, Civics class instructor

FREE College Level STEAM Program

Lauren MacLachlan, Class of 2016, a board member of Learning Unlimited, is offering Doane students ages 13 & up FREE access to a national Splash program, Rainstorm, that is being run out of colleges and universities all across the country, including many top 30 schools.

This program, led by teachers who are undergraduates, graduate students, or passionate experts from across the country, is usually held in person at colleges all across the U.S. This year, as a result of the pandemic, the programs have migrated online into a virtual format. This also means that the offerings have greatly expanded.

A sample of the over 100 classes you could take includes:

A Brief Guide to Nuclear Weapons
Intro to Breakdancing
Ancient Greek Science Fiction
History of Magic and Alchemy in the Western World
How to Lose Money On The Internet

Lower School Parent Night:  Inclusion in the Early Years with Rosetta Lee

Lower School parents: Please mark your calendars to join us via Zoom on Monday, May 24th from 6:30pm-8:00pm for Inclusion in the Early Years: Why, What, and How. In this virtual presentation, Rosetta Lee will explain what research shows about the ages at which our children become aware of differences and stereotypes. She will share age-appropriate ways to develop intentionally inclusive and identity-conscious children. Of course, we will leave plenty of time for your questions as well.

Please be on the lookout for the Zoom link coming from the Lower School faculty.
Doane Academy Family Night at Stewart's

This is an informal gathering; an opportunity for Doane families to enjoy some good food, and some good company at Stewart's with no further agenda or obligation.
We are so happy to be able to offer this food program with its safe, nutritious and user-friendly options for school lunch.

You will be receiving an online ordering form every week (linked below) that outlines our daily menu options for the following week. We will have three daily menu options that will change, but soup or peanut butter and jelly will be offered every day. Other menu selections will include fresh fruit, snack, and dessert. Meals are inclusive, and pricing will be visible for your convenience. Your selections need to be turned in no later than noon on Friday as NexDine needs to plan, order and prepare for the coming week. For now we will have ‘contactless service’ only, which means that meals will be packaged individually, and the dining room will not be open for impulse shopping, so please plan for your child accordingly. Please print and post the menu at home, for a daily reminder of your child’s selection.

Place your lunch order here.
