Georgetown announced an expansion to laboratory research on May 14. Effective immediately, those with already-approved research resumption plans can double the density of their laboratory operations to 50% capacity. Individuals must still maintain physical distancing in accordance with University guidelines. Faculty, staff and students are required to comply with the University’s public health protocols, including COVID-19 testing and wearing masks.

Students, faculty and staff are now able to be vaccinated on campus at no cost with the two-dose COVID-19 vaccine produced by Moderna. Vaccines will be available on a rolling basis. After receiving your first vaccine, you can make an appointment for the second vaccine 28 days later. You must receive both doses to be fully vaccinated. If you are interested in getting vaccinated on campus, please email chiefpublichealthofficer@georgetown.edu to indicate your interest and to receive follow up information.

As a reminder, fully vaccinated faculty and staff who are coming to campus and who have submitted their vaccination documentation will be able to follow the University’s Summer 2021 COVID-19 Testing Protocol for fully vaccinated individuals, which begins on June 1.

As the Racial Justice Committee for Change (RJCC) transitions to become a GUMC standing committee in July, faculty, staff and students across the medical center who are interested in joining the committee are invited to apply through the RJCC Application of Interest. Georgetown recently launched BellRinger, a bike ride and community movement to end cancer. Faculty, staff, students and alumni, together with the broader DC community, can team up, train and enjoy a first-class ride this October while raising funds for cancer research at Georgetown Lombardi. Beginning August 2, the university will resume paid parking operations for all parking lots and garages. Recognizing that hybrid work schedules and reduced time on campus may be a reality for many employees, registered parkers have the option to pause their parking, cancel their parking or switch to two- or three-day per week parking. Anyone who has not previously had a parking pass on campus and is interested in signing up for one should complete the Parking Interest form. Learn more here.

A neurologic pathway by which non-damaging but high frequency brain impact blunts normal brain function and causes long-term problems with learning and memory has been identified. The finding research, led by Mark Burns, PhD, suggests tailored drug therapy can be designed and developed to reactivate and normalize cognitive function. |
