2022 Session Update
Week 5
VA Delegate John McGuire
(Navy SEAL - Father - Business Owner)
The General Assembly convened on January 12, marking the beginning of the 402nd legislative session of the House of Delegates.
We have much work ahead of us to make Virginia the best place to live work and raise a family. It is an honor to be your voice and fight for you in Richmond. We are getting after it!
VA Mask Mandate Update
Parent Choice: A bipartisan senate bill to end mask mandates in Virginia passed the Senate 29 -9 and it also passed the house full education committee 12-10. The House version HB 1272 passed the full education committee and will pass the floor soon. Political science is catching up to medical science as we learned in Florida. Wearing a mask 8 hours per day is harmful to a child’s mental health and more. Unfortunately, some Virginia school boards and superintendents push fear rather than data and will do everything in their power to make sure that children will wear a mask all day despite Governor Youngkin's Executive Order No. 2. California, New Jersey, and Connecticut, are ending their mask mandates. This bill will give parents the right to choose whether or not their children will wear a mask.
Tebow Bill Passes
The Tebow bill passes the House! A bill I chief co-patroned with chief patron Delegate Marie March just passed the House and is headed to the Senate. This bill will allow homeschooled students to play public school sports.
Voter ID
A bill I chief co-patroned with chief patron Delegate Lee Ware seen here passed privileges and elections sub-committee 6-4. 80% of Americans support voter ID rules.
2022 McGuire LEGISLATION

Bills:

Speaker's Bible Study
Governor Youngkin and Lieutenant Governor Winsome Sears joined us at 7am on Wednesday for the Speaker's weekly Bible Study. This week we prayed and talked about the book of Micah and justice.
Virginia Pro Life Advocacy Day
Life is a miracle and it must be protected. I really enjoyed meeting constituents and folks all over Virginia who support life on Virginia Pro Life Advocacy Day.
Bridgewater Funeral
Hundreds of officers from all over the country and Virginia gathered on the campus of James Madison University to pay respects to two Bridgewater College officers who were killed last week. Governor Youngkin spoke and said, "The Dynamic Duo" knew this was a dangerous job, but they were willing to serve and sacrifice in their common defense. Those two knew what service was all about. They lived it, and they breathed it. They served our country and served our community."
China Before Communism
Jisun Bae and Tong Wang, constituents in District 56 Henrico County, stopped by to visit and to tell me about the Shen Yun traditional Chinese culture event, Feb. 15-20, 2022 at the Kennedy Center Opera House.
Rural Caucus
I really enjoyed attending the rural caucus reception with Governor Youngkin, Lieutenant Governor Winsome Sears, Attorney General Jason Miyares, fellow members of the Virginia House of Delegates, and many more. Thank you to everyone who supports Rural Virginia.
Freedom Convoy 2022
More than 500 heavy-duty trucks, pickup trucks and other vehicles have been serving as a parking lot in downtown Ottawa. These vehicles are operated by individuals who are fed up with the social restrictions and vaccine mandates which are destroying businesses and families. Who knew Canadians had this much fight and would reach their limit before the United States?
Pray for Ukraine
Things are escalating between Russia and Ukraine. Russia is poised to invade Ukraine any day now and the United Nations, which includes American soldiers, could get drawn into another unnecessary armed conflict, which will kill innocent civilians. We are praying that better judgement will prevail.
Governor's Reception
My wife, Tracy, and I attended Governor Youngkin's reception at the Governor's mansion, honoring the Virginia House Republicans. We are all working hard to make Virginia the best place to live, work, and raise a family.
Fox Hunting Day
Once per year, Fox hunting clubs from around Virginia visit the Virginia General Assembly to advocate for their sport and conservation.Today I had the honor of introducing Deep Run Hunt Club located in Manakin Sabot Goochland County and also located just a couple of miles down the road from our house. Deep Run Hunt Club is a third old is fox hunting club in the nation. Thank you for all you do to educate young people and promote conservation. Click here

Sexually Explicit Material in Classroom
SB656 passed the Senate with bipartisan support. This bill gives parents the right to opt out of sexually explicit materials in schools for their children. This bill passed the General Assembly overwhelmingly in 2016 and was vetoed by then Gov. McAuliffe. Youngkin will not veto it!
Delegate Mike Cherry Prayer
Delegate Mike Cherry of Chesterfield led the prayer for the General Assembly on his birthday this week. He prayed for our military, law enforcement, and for Virginia. I am proud to be the first elected official who endorsed him for his race last year!
