Responding to God’s Cosmic Generosity

Cosmic Generosity: Week One Video
|
|
This fall at St. Mark’s we will be celebrating the many ways that we as a community experience the Cosmic Generosity of God in our lives. We’ll be taking a journey deeper into the biblical meaning and practice of Christian Stewardship. We want to focus, not on our budget and the need of the church to receive, but rather on the spiritual practice of every Christian to reflect on their own financial life and discern what they are called to joyfully give to God as part of their own spiritual growth and development.
October 24, we will have our Cosmic Generosity Celebration Sunday. We’re planning several ways to celebrate the Cosmic Generosity of God in our lives and community including the Dedication of our new Cosmic Mosaic Sunday, October. 17, and an outdoor Octoberfest Hymn Sing on Saturday, October 23. We know the generosity of our St. Mark’s community and the strong commitment to growing in faith that we share. We invite you to join us in this act of Worship in the coming weeks as we reflect on the Cosmic Generosity of God in our lives together.

This Sunday: Blessing of the Pets
|
|
Sunday, October 3, 4:00 p.m.
All are invited to celebrate our beloved animal friends this Sunday afternoon at 4:00 in the Fish Garden. Bring your companions for a blessing or simply come to celebrate God’s creation.
There will be an opportunity to paint a smooth stone (both during coffee hour in the morning and all afternoon) in memory of departed animal friends. We will create a space in the Fish Garden to place these stone memorials.

St. Mark's Safe Church (Follow Up)
|
|
We had a fantastic turn out for St. Mark's Safe Church Training on Sunday, September 26th. We had at least 50 members participate (in person or on zoom)! THANK YOU to everyone who made the time to participate. If you were unable to participate in Sunday's session, please make time in the next few weeks to complete the training in one of the following ways:
1) You can watch the video recording of Sunday's Session here: Then email Sylvia+ with the time and date you completed the video, along with a super brief reflection in the form of 1-3 "bullet point" notes: 1-3 important facts you learned, 1-3 questions or ideas you are still pondering, or 1-3 "action steps" you plan to take as a result of the session)
Our goal is to have 100% of our membership complete this training by All Saints Sunday (Sunday, November 7th, 2021.) We deeply appreciate your sacrifice of time and attention on behalf of the safety of the most vulnerable members of our community.
Next Steps:
Pastoral Support: We know that this is sensitive subject matter, and that abuse has touched the lives of most of our members at some point. Please do not hesitate to reach out to any member of the clergy for prayer, support, or conversation at any point! There are also a number of lay leaders at St. Mark's with counseling and/or chaplaincy backgrounds who are available for support and conversation. Please let us know how we can support you!
Ongoing Discussion: Mother Sylvia and lay leader/counselor Susan Smith-Pierce will be facilitating a follow up "round table" discussion for anyone who is interested in further conversation about the issues raised by this training. Date and details coming soon!
