Secretary and Director Roles Are Uncontested
Avinash Patil
will continue as secretary of the new EC. The names of 14 uncontested directors were announced as follows:
Ruchi Agrawal, Matthew Chacko, Vaishali Gade, Sanjay Kudrimoti, Krishna Podipireddy, Hardeep Mann, Praveen Misra, Praveena Naduthota, Nila Rakhit, Umesh Rao, Lata Rao, Prag Singh, Pradeep Shukla
and
Aruna Varsheney.

Achievements of the Outgoing 2015-17 Executive Committee
The outgoing EC has worked hard, planning and executing activities for the community. Some of the achievements that are "firsts" for the organization include:
- Presenting a Hindi play, “Such aur Sach ke Siva.” Recognized Seva and We Care charities for their community work and donated funds to them and to “No Kid Hungry,” a Baltimore-based charitable organization.
- Hosting an appreciation luncheon for IAGB members, sponsors and community leaders.
- Conducting antakshari elimination sessions and holding finals at 2017 Republic Day event.
- Running nine mini competitions (patriotic theme art, kite-making, science quiz, chess, geography bee, patriotic sonnet/poem writing, trivia quiz and essay writing) at the 2017 Republic Day event.
- Presenting a Hindi play, “… Chale Hans Ki Chaal,” in collaboration with Leherein, a non-profit organization.
- Launching the IAGB monthly eNewsletter that reports on IAGB news and nonprofit-organization activities in the Greater Boston area. It also raises funds by charging for-profit organizations and advertising their businesses.
- Upgrading the IAGB website and outsourcing its maintenance to India New England News and charging businesses for advertising, raising funds in the process.
- Appointing Community Services and Community Collaboration subcommittees. The Community Services subcommittee adopted the “hunger platform,” specifically “No Kid Hungry” and made donations to Chennai flood relief and Nepal earthquake victims. Members participated in the Walk for Hunger and conducted a food drive.
- Passing a resolution to collaborate with non-profit 501 (c) approved organizations to help promote them, such as with SETU to promote its play, “Kamala,” to raise funds for Ekal Vidyalaya.
- Appointing an Advisory Committee.
- Updating by-law articles for submitting to the general body for approval.

Pratham’s New Apps Enhance Children’s Learning Skills
Pratham,
one of the largest and successful non-governmental education organizations in India, has developed two free apps for Android devices. The apps are designed to “make learning fun and take a young mind on a journey of self-discovery.”

or Pratham Digital offers interactive content to improve basic literacy and numeracy skills,
support subject-specific competencies, and promote the ability to think critically and work collaboratively.

Pratham Books
is a library of books with Indian content in multiple languages for different age groups.

SaReGaMaPa 2017
.
The auditions will lead up to the
grand finale on Saturday, November 4. The audition dates are:
- Saturday, October 7, at Chelmsford, MA
- Sunday, October 8, at Framingham, MA
- Saturday, October 14, at Waltham, MA
Categories
A new category “Ek Main Aur Ek Tu” (duets) has been introduced this year. Auditions are open to age groups in the following categories:
- 6-12 years
- 13-20 years
- 21-50 years
- Over 50 years
There will be Judges’ awards and Public Choice awards in each category.

in North America: November 19-26
New England Shirdi Sai Parivaar
(NESSP) announces the week of November 19-26 as the new dates for the inauguration of the largest Shirdi Sai temple in North America at 99 Shirdi Way, Groton, MA. The week-long festival will include worship, ceremony and a showcase of music, dance, ancient culture and tradition. NESSP invites all devotees to the celebration.

Saheli Holds Nirbhaya Fundraising Gala: December 8
Saheli
celebrates the strength, resilience and empowerment of South Asian women at its Nirbhaya fundraising gala. It will be held from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday, December 8, at the Hilton in Woburn, MA.
The gala includes “an empowered walk of women who have overcome life’s challenges, a sumptuous dinner, music, dance and the screening of a video.”
