Fraternal Order of Police Meeting
April 3: The Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) LA County Lodge 1 hosted its monthly board meeting on Saturday. PPOA Executive Director Wayne Quint Jr. joined a number of retired — but still very dedicated — PPOA members for this Zoom video conference. 

Full dues-paying PPOA members also are FOP Lodge 1 members — this membership provides workplace legal protections through the FOP Legal Defense Plan and other significant benefits. The LA County Lodge is one of 30 lodges in the California State FOP, and PPOA is thankful for the diligent work of State Lodge President (and former PPOA President) Roger Mayberry.

PPOA Welcomes 65 Newly Promoted Sergeants
April 5: President Tab Rhodes, Executive Director Quint and PPOA staff members proudly welcomed 65 newly-promoted sergeants to this association on Monday. We wish them all the best of luck as the next generation of supervisors leading the department forward.
Support for Members at Community College Bureau
April 7: In a continuing effort to support members, PPOA was proud to co-sponsor an Employee Appreciation Luncheon hosted by the Community College Bureau. PPOA Board Member/Security Officer Henry Jimenez and Staff Member Rico Escalante were on hand to provide swag to those in attendance and discuss union-related issues with members.
Meeting with Department of Homeland Security
April 7: President Rhodes joined leaders from fellow law enforcement associations for a roundtable Zoom video conference with U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Following a presentation about priorities of the Biden administration, Secretary Mayorkas participated in a question and answer session with the law enforcement association representatives.
COVID-19 Conference with PPOA Legal Team
April 8:  PPOA hosted its weekly legal meeting on Thursday in order for President Rhodes, Executive Director Quint, Sr. Labor Rep. Venise Wallace, Labor Rep. Teresa O'Neil, Intake Representative KevinThompson and PPOA attorneys to address and analyze COVID-19 issues impacting PPOA members
California Coalition of Law Enforcement Associations
April 8: The California Coalition of Law Enforcement Associations (CCLEA) brought together public safety union leaders from throughout the state for a committee meeting on Thursday. President Rhodes and fellow CCLEA representatives interviewed candidates campaigning for the Assembly District 54 special election. This AD 54 special election is the result of former Assemblymember Sydney Kamlager being elected to the Senate last month. District 54 includes Westwood, Culver City, Baldwin Hills and more. Recommendations from this committee will be forwarded to the full CCLEA Board of Directors for discussion.

CCLEA, which represents 40 police associations and 150,000 peace officers, is the state's largest law enforcement organization. For more information, visit CCLEA.ORG.
LA County Federation of Labor/Council on Political Education
April 9: Executive Director Quint participated in a teleconference yesterday with the LA County Federation of Labor Council on Political Education (COPE). The COPE discussed the upcoming special election for Assembly District 54 and the candidates campaigning for that seat. This AD 54 special election is the result of former Assemblymember Sydney Kamlager being elected to the Senate last month. COPE will present an endorsement recommendation to the LA County Federation of Labor Executive Council for consideration. PPOA is one of 300 affiliated unions in the LA County Federation of Labor.

PPOA is proud to announce that 12 scholarships worth $13,500 total are available to help further the education of PPOA members and their sons and daughters. The deadline to apply is close of business (5:00 pm) on May 14, 2021. Since this program's inception nine years ago, PPOA has awarded approximately $100,000 in scholarships to members of the PPOA family.
