Parsha Talk
In this week's parsha, Tazria, we learn that the gift of life β the single most amazing act of creation β imparts the giver with a degree of ritual impurity. Why is it that an act of such sanctity and Divine character is combined with elements usually associated with emptiness and the absence of spirituality?

Color Your World With:
ISRAEL. In an emotional and bittersweet ceremony, we sent off our Senior Class on their highly anticipated Senior Trip to Israel. This trip is the culmination of all their knowledge and experience, where RMBA's mission comes to life. The send-off began with Kindergartenβ12th grades, faculty, and staff reciting tehillim and praying for quieter and more peaceful times for our brothers and sisters in Israel. The ceremony continued with each of the seniors receiving gifts from the Bnot Sherut, Hadas and Hila, to bring with them to Israel (sleeping masks, shaliach mitzvah tzedaka money, etc.). The seniors then provided sweet treats for all the students. We pray for their safe travels and return. Am Yisrael Chai.

Every week a student from each one of Mrs. Gelman's 7thβ12th grade classes writes an original haiku about the parsha and a Dvar Torah about the Haftorah.
This week's H & H covering Parshat Tazria features Noa Frydberg (11), Alex Schwartz (10), and Shir Ogorek (7). Click here for some parsha inspiration you can share at your Shabbat table.

From the Desk of the STEAM Lab
This week in STEAM we learned all about the sun: what it is, its shape, material, color, and all. We also went over the importance of our sun for our survival and everything on the planet. We also played with our shadows by tracing them and seeing how and when they move in relation to the position of the sun.

History and Economics
This week in Mr. Cell's high school classes, students in the 11β12th grade Economics class wrote essays on current political economic topics of their choosing. This resulted in various topics and perspectives. In the 9β10th grade History classes students looked at, among other things, how the recently signed anti-lynching legislation is related to years of racist terrorism and stifled legislative responses.

Literary Devices
This week middle school students in Ms. Ruben's ELA classes focused on reviewing and learning new literary terms and devices. Students are always encouraged to focus on author's craft and annotate interesting word choice that stands out, as this is often the main topic of discussion during the classes' reading review. Some common literary devices found in middle school literature that are analyzed are personification, alliteration, symbolism, allusion, and imagery.

Lashon Hara
This week students in Morah Sandy's ECE3 class learned about the parshas Tazria and Metzora. They learned that for speaking lashon hara (derogatory speech) a person got tzaraat, spots on his skin. When he made teshuva (repented), the spots would go away. The class made booklets comparing a speaker of lashon hara to someone who did not sin. The students also dramatized what it looks like to talk about our friends and how that makes our friends feel sad.

Volume
This week the 7th and 8th grade students in Mrs. Rosenzweig's Pre-Algebra class learned about volume. The students practiced their skills by teaching other students how to find the volume of different shapes, including: cones, spheres, pyramids, prisms, and cylinders. This strategy helped students have a better understanding of the different formulas for each shape.

Disc Golf
Last week in Lower School PE, students started their unit on Disc Golf. The objective was to learn the terms related to the sport, and to practice driving and putting with the disc. Two of the games played were Drop Zone Putting and an obstacle course that combined gross motor activities such as running with aim and control. The students were all so excited to make a basket. Disc golf is a sport the whole family can play. In fact there are many courses to visit in Houston.
