Feature Family - the Jacksons

“Living on ODSP and part-time jobs, we struggled to provide a positive and supportive learning environment for our son,” says Jamie, who will be the first person in his immediate family to become a homeowner.

Jamie and Jennifer’s new home on Culver Drive in London will give them the freedom of a safe place for their energetic son to grow up. They are particularity excited to have their own backyard, as the family loves to spend time outdoors together.

Culver Drive Virtual Key Ceremony!

To celebrate the completion of our renovation project on Culver Drive in London for Jamie, Jennifer and Christopher, we held a live streamed Virtual Key Ceremony on the Habitat Heartland Facebook page! If you missed it live on May 26th, you can still watch here.

The Habitat Heartland Ontario team was thrilled to hand the keys over to our newest Habitat homeowners on Culver Drive through our virtual celebration on Zoom.

We were joined by Habitat homeowners Jamie, Jennifer and Christopher, as well as Habitat for Humanity’s Brian Elliot (CEO Habitat Heartland Ontario, Alan MacKinnon (Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario Board Chair). This renovation project would not have been possible with out the generous donation of the semi-detached home on Culver Drive by the Estate of John Joseph Arnold.

Thank you to our volunteers, donors, partners, and everyone in the community that supported our Culver Drive renovation project!

Investing in Innovation in India
In November 2020, Tvasta Manufacturing 3D printed a 600-square-foot home in concrete over the course of 30 days. With improvements, the start-up hopes to cut that time down to about a week. The build was made possible with investment from Habitat for Humanity’s ShelterTech. The ShelterTech accelerator — run by Habitat’s Terwilliger Center for Innovation in Shelter and its partners — identifies, nurtures and accelerates start-ups like Tvasta, helping to bring new ideas and technologies to improve low-income housing for families and communities in need of access to decent, affordable homes.

The concrete used in this 3D printing is specially formulated for faster drying times, allowing Tvasta to build these homes more quickly and efficiently than traditional construction, which can sometimes take three to five times longer for a similarly sized structure. That could translate into many more sustainable, affordable homes in countries like India, where at least a third of urban residents live in informal settlements with inadequate shelter.

Build strength, stability and self-reliance through affordable homeownership for a local family today,
like Teagan's family!
