Alberta Municipal Tree Symposium – March 6, 2024

The annual Alberta Municipal Tree Symposium is scheduled for March 6th, 2024, in Red Deer.

"If a tree dies in a city, who is to blame?" is the theme this year. A little tongue in cheek, it is a harsh reality of municipal tree planting and care. We hope this day encourage increased collaboration on tree survivability.

Hosted by the Landscape Alberta Nursery Producers Group, this meeting sets to bring together those that produce the tree with the largest group of end-users of trees in the province. This forum is a place to discuss shared challenges and vision for the future of trees in our province. This annual event will help the champions of tree development to gather to share, learn and support each other in a shared vision for greener cities to live, work and play in.

When:  March 6th, 2024, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm

Where: Red Deer Golf & Country Club - 4500 Fountain Dr, Red Deer, AB T4N 6W8

Cost: None (Sponsored by the Landscape Alberta Nursery Producers Group) – Limit of 4 people per company.

City of Edmonton to Restore Horticulture Budget

At the recent Community and Public Services committee meeting a motion to restore funding for horticulture maintenance to pre-pandemic levels. This is a positive step toward valuing urban green infrastructure by ensuring it is properly maintained. Landscape Alberta has continued to bring this message forward to many municipalities, including Edmonton and it was a central message in our public outreach campaign in Summer of 2022 when the City of Edmonton was considering a pest-control ban.
