Dean's Update: Changing Orientation Traditions

September brings many orientation sessions for new members of the Drexel community and in this issue of In Circulation you will find examples of changing ways the Libraries welcomes new students, faculty and staff.  Some of our orientations repeat expected in-person activities such as presenting to an audience or staffing a booth at a welcome event. People's lives are busy and newcomers to Drexel are bombarded with information. Virtual orientations provide the benefit of meeting new students and faculty at times and locations that are most convenient to them, while remaining accessible for weeks after they have begun the term. Electronically delivered orientation sessions have the added benefit of being cost effective, as they allow librarians to travel without costly transport tickets, to a variety of Network destinations from California to New Jersey, or wherever Drexel students reside or faculty work.

A New Library Website!

The Libraries have a whole new website, a new version of the iDEA repository, new course and subject guides, and we've made many other changes and improvements, all with the goal of making our online services easier and more intuitive. We've been working towards this for the last year and we are excited for you to get in and start exploring.

Libraries works with RISE@Drexel to Educate Future STEM Leaders

In June 2014, six minority students from the Community College of Philadelphia arrived at Drexel to conduct full-time research in the Engineering lab of their choice through the RISE@Drexel program. Each RISE scholar is paired with a mentor, and undergraduate and graduate TA and is supervised by the Drexel Principal Investigator.
