There Isn't Much at IHN That Colleen Smith Doesn't Do!

This month, 8 years ago, Colleen graduated from IHN's program. It wasn't long after that she was sought out and recommended for a role on campus. She is in her 7th year at IHN and has become part of every system, at all four campuses. Prior to working for IHN, Colleen graduated from George Brown’s Chef Training program, and worked as a Chef in the hospitality industry for over a decade. Colleen developed her culinary skills and spent a fulfilling time working professionally throughout Canada and Australia. While working in the food service sector, her passion for wanting to dig deeper into what nutrition and wellness really meant, brought her to IHN. Today, Colleen works as the Head Administrator & Program Advisor at the Mississauga campus. She is IHN's go-to for literature support, class schedule development, faculty support, and is the registrar for IHN's Continuing Education department. For personal development she personally completed IHN’s Applied Iridology, Clinical Detoxification, Nutrition & Mental Health, Supplementation in Clinical Practice (twice!), Energy Medicine, Understanding Lab Diagnostics and Advanced Herbal Therapeutics. Continuing her life of learning, she is currently completing an education under the incredible tutelage of Susan Elliotson in Herbal Pharmacy, Level 1 and 2.

IHN's Virtual Classes Open Your Options

Did you start, but not complete, IHN’s diploma program in Applied Holistic Nutrition? Since we began offering courses online in March 2020, we have seen an enthusiastic return of previous in-class students. The flexibility and ease of logging in from home has brought the welcome return of familiar, smiling faces! Common reasons previous in-class students put their program on hold is a move out of town, a commute that was difficult or limited schedule options. Now that we offer our full diploma program online, it has brought a high degree of flexibility. As with in-class student support, you can enjoy an appointment with a Program Advisor to create a custom schedule, tailored to plug into your professional and personal life.

Students can register for a course at any time throughout the academic year. All lectures are LIVE (unless you are joining us from outside of our LIVE time zones) with supportive and dynamic engagement with your classmates and instructors. You can complete the program on a full-time or part-time basis. You could have access to either daytime and evening classes. We have four streams of courses being offered from each of our four Canadian campuses. In addition to online learning, returning students will gain practical experience in the field by completing 140 hours of Co-op/Practicum placement in settings where holistic nutritionists are in demand. IHN's Career Consultant can help you envision your future in the field.

Committing To Anti-Racism Practices In Healthcare

There are inequalities present in our healthcare system, and BIPOC Canadians are those most affected. This suggests that decades of racism have been ingrained in the system, as some patients feel race impacts their diagnosis, treatment, and quality of care. In a September 16, 2020 Inclusion article (3 minute read), “Racism In Canada’s Health Care System Was A Risk To BIPOC Canadians Before COVID-19”, addresses that systemic racism requires a comprehensive approach. Solutions include, “improving race-based data collection, allowing doctors with foreign medical training to gain licensing in Canada, and educating those working in medical fields about the complex history of colonization in Canada.”
