From the San Francisco Business Times: Jun 30, 2022

This week we stop in Walnut Creek — a city, a suburb, and an exurb all rolled into one. The city sits about 16 miles east of Oakland at the crossroads of state Route 24 and Interstate 680, nestled in valleys in the shadow of Mount Diablo in Contra Costa County. The highway juncture and the Walnut Creek and Pleasant Hill BART stations make it ideal

WALNUT CREEK HITS THE RESET BUTTON

City of Walnut Creek.

From the San Francisco Business Times: Jun 30, 2022

Many of the city’s residents have heard this refrain when traveling to different parts of the Bay Area — an impressive feat for a regional population given to civic rivalries.
The once-sleepy town nestled near the base of Mount Diablo has flourished into a premier destination for food, art, culture and commerce.“It’s amazing what kind of name recognition Walnut Creek has developed over the years,” says

Teri Killgore, the city’s economic development director and assistant city manager. “We recently attended the International Conference of Shopping Centers convention in Las Vegas for the first time, and we were stunned at how many brokers and retail magnates knew about us. We kept introducing ourselves as ‘a Bay Area suburb’ and folks would respond, ‘oh, we know who you are.’”To read the article in its entirety, click here.

Homelessness in Walnut Creek Tuesday, July 26 | 6-8 PM
Walnut Creek City Council Chambers
City Hall - Hybird Event
( Masks are required in council chambers.)

The Walnut Creek Homeless Task Force is hosting a free public Community Forum on Homelessness. A hybrid event, the forum will be held in the Walnut Creek City Council Chambers, City Hall, and via Zoom. The forum is designed to give community members and business owners a platform to learn about the homeless services and continuum of care available to unhoused people and those at risk in Walnut Creek, and what actions are being taken by the City and the County to address homelessness. Representatives from several agencies that work together to provide homeless services will be present. Virtual attendees must RSVP. Click here. For more information, visit WCHomelessTaskForce.org.
City Council Update

The Walnut Creek City Council recently adopted an outdoor dining policy aimed at streamlining many of the guidelines that were piloted during the early stages of the pandemic. The new policy offers consistency surrounding the use of outdoor structures, patios, sidewalks, and parking lots. The Council also adopted an ordinance requiring safer storage of firearms in homes to limit gun injuries and deaths, particularly involving children who aren't aware of the danger. And the Council issued a proclamation last month recognizing Juneteenth and its significance; Juneteenth is now a national holiday.
As communities continue to mourn violence and mass shootings across the country, we're grateful to receive a state grant to support and expand our Beyond Violence program to help address some of the root causes of gun violence in our community.
John Muir Health has been awarded a nearly $1.8 million grant over the next three years from the State of California to support the health system’s Beyond Violence program and expansion of mental health services in the community it serves. This grant is part of California’s Violence Intervention and Prevention (CalVIP) Grant Program, which provides grants to programs in communities that are disproportionately impacted by violence, particularly group-member involved homicides, shootings, and aggravated assaults Learn more.
TEAMBUILDING
Outdoor Teambuilding

We believe improving teamwork can improve overall corporate culture and lead to greater success for every organization.
"Is PALEOVENTURES still doing outdoor teambuilding?" That’s the question Chamber member Trudy Triner gets asked most often these days. The answer is YES! Following two years of zoom meetings, virtual events, and working from home, many organizations are now looking for fun and creative ways to get their teams back together. To learn how Paleoventures can design an outdoor teambuilding experience for your organization, please visit their website or call Trudy Triner at 925-899-0809. For a printable flyer, click here.
