See below for the answer to this month's trivia question.

Webinar: Opportunities 2022 Information Session

Opportunities: Making Dollars and Sense of Selling to the Government is now on the calendar for June 6 in Asheville. Is your small business considering attending the conference?

We are hosting an "Ask Us Anything" information session on April 26 at 10 a.m. about Opportunities 2022 to help you decide if it's a fit for your business.

The SBTDC's Government Contracting Assistance Program (GCAP) team will discuss:

  • What to expect at Opportunities 2022
  • What small businesses should attend
  • How to prepare for the conference to make the most out of your day

Registration is required for this event. You will receive a confirmation email containing information on joining the webinar after registering.

NC Small Business Enterprise Program

GCAP_1.png

Last year, the NC Department of Administration's Office for Historically Underutilized Businesses launched its statewide Small Business Enterprise Program (NCSBE) to aid North Carolina's minority-owned businesses after the COVID-19 pandemic.

To participate in the NCSBE program, businesses must meet specific eligibility requirements and complete an online application form, which is available here. The application is open to both HUB-certified and non-HUB-certified businesses.

All NCSBE program participants must:

  • Be an independent for-profit business headquartered in the State of North Carolina
  • Be a business with up to 100 employees (including, but not limited to, sole proprietorships, home-based businesses, and independent contractors)
  • Not have annual revenues exceeding $1.5 million

Preparing an Effective Capability Statement

Brookyn Dellinger, GCAP Counselor (Boone, Hickory & Winston-Salem)

A capability statement is essentially a resume for your business that states its competencies, achievements, accreditations, certifications, and contact information. Typically only one page, this document is concise and well-organized to briefly convey all pertinent information about your business. A capability statement is a key marketing and communications tool for networking with government agencies and prime contractors.

If you are doing business with the government, having a capability statement is a must! You might even want a few different versions that are tailored to various agencies or according to your offerings. Send this document to potential customers, include it in solicitation responses, and bring it to networking events (such as Opportunities 2022).

Is a capability statement part of your outreach? The GCAP team can review your existing capability statement to provide feedback or help you start one from scratch.

Consider viewing our on-demand webinar, Preparing an Effective Capability Statement, for a thorough overview of this crucial marketing tool.

SAM UEI Replaced DUNS on April 4

Starting on April 4, the usage of DUNS numbers by the System for Award Management (SAM) ceased. The new Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) replaced the DUNS number on all SAM accounts. If you already have a SAM account, you already have a UEI as well. To find out your UEI, open up your SAM account and look at the top of the page, where your company's UEI will be listed.

Success Story:

SDV Command Source

Brookyn Dellinger, GCAP Counselor (Boone, Hickory & Winston-Salem)

GCAP_3.png

SDV Command Source (SDVCS) is a minority and service-disabled veteran-owned small business (SDVOSB) that fulfills a wide range of government and military contracts, from sewing uniforms and other garments to warehousing and shipping vehicles for soldiers deployed overseas.

Aside from SDVCS's exemplary product quality and service, the company is committed to employing service-disabled veterans, providing opportunity and employment for our nation’s most deserving, proven, and dedicated citizens. SDV Command Source is a Department of Labor HIRE Vets Gold Medallion recipient and nominated this year for a Platinum Medallion.

SDV Command Source has been an SBTDC client for nearly 10 years and is a great example of how we try to build trusted and long-lasting client relationships. Over the years the SBTDC has assisted SDVCS with strategic growth, exporting, and technology commercialization at times, but the client has consistently engaged the GCAP team for government contracting assistance. The client has found substantial success as a subcontractor in recent years.

“Our latest engagement has been about identifying new potential government contracting opportunities and further increasing SDV Command Source’s marketability through additional certifications and small business program participation. As SDVCS seeks growth through diversification in the government marketplace and as a prime contractor, we are providing tools and assistance to keep the business moving forward."

Trivia Answer

  • At least $100 million to expand broadband coverage across the state
  • A portion of the $7.5 billion to build out a national network of electric vehicle charging stations
