Midland Streetscape Project Update November 17, 2023

FINAL WORK OF 2023 IS SCHEDULED FOR EARLY DECEMBER

We are at the final stage of construction work for 2023. The last items to be completed are eight remaining water connections along Midland Avenue and Basalt Center Circle followed by temporary paving of Midland Avenue (weather permitting).

This work is scheduled as overnight work and set to be finished on Friday, December 8 just in time for the Holiday Music in Basalt River Park featuring A Band Called Alexis and a special illuminated bandshell, among other treats like a petting zoo, a tree lighting, and food and beverage.

NIGHT WORK ALERT!

7 a.m. Thursday, December 7 to 5 p.m. Friday, December 8

34 Hour Closure of Midland Avenue & East Homestead Drive

Because of the complexity of the remaining water connections, it is required that the work take place over a 24-hour period with additional hours scheduled for temporary paving. Therefore, Midland Avenue and East Homestead Drive in downtown Basalt will be closed to all through traffic for 34 hours from 7 a.m. on Thursday, December 7 to 5 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2023.  The coordinated construction effort is designed to have the work on all remaining eight connections occurring at the same time to minimize the impact to the community and for the safety of the construction crew.  This will also require a 24-hour water shut off for the impacted properties along Midland Avenue and Basalt Center Circle (shown in blue on map below).

Detours will be in place with flaggers present during the road closures.  Vehicles can access the Frying Pan via Cottonwood Drive and can enter and exit the Homestead neighborhood via West Homestead Drive.  Access to Basalt Center Circle is open.

Pedestrian access will be open on Midland Avenue throughout the project.  Parking will be available on Midland Spur and Two Rivers Road. There is more information on the construction and night work at Let's Talk Basalt.

Neighborhood Construction Impacts

Midland Spur, Homestead Drive, Gold Rivers Court, Midland Avenue

For those living and working in the vicinity of Midland Avenue, you will experience noise, dust, bright light, and vibrations throughout the 24-hour work period.

All properties impacted by the water shut off have been notified. If you believe you are impacted and were not notified, please email midlandstreetscape@gmail.com

Again, we thank you for your patience. The new water main will provide benefits such as improved fire suppression for sprinkler systems and more resiliency in our infrastructure, including greater mitigation in the case of emergencies.
