The Hallsville Band & Choir were recognized for their performances during state competitions. The Hallsville Band earned an Exemplary Rating (“One” rating) at State Large Ensemble. The Concert Choir received an Outstanding Rating ("Two" rating) at State Large Ensemble. The Chamber Choir received an Exemplary ("One" rating) at State Large Ensemble.
Logan Cox was recognized for placing 3rd at the state golf tournament.
Chelsea Otten, primary music teacher, was recognized for her virtual music concert for kindergarten through second grade. She went above and beyond to create a musical experience for her students and families.
APPROVAL OF BALING LEASE
The district advertised for proposals for three years of seasonal hay baling on district property near Hallsville Primary School. Sealed proposals were due to the district on April 23, 2021. One proposal was received by Chris West and was approved at the meeting.
FAMILY ACCESS CENTER OF EXCELLENCE
Last month, the Board approved the revised MOU for our county agreement with FACE. Mental health consortium services have been expanded and restructured under FACE, including new Family Intervention Specialists. These specialists will provide direct services to our students and their families. Hallsville will be staffed with one full-time intervention specialist beginning this fall; this position will be funded by the county Children’s Services Board. This represents an important new support for our students.
PANDEMIC RESPONSE PLANS
The county health order expired on Wednesday, May 12. The district has maintained most protocols in our return to school plans, including enhanced cleaning, seating charts, and room arrangements to maximize physical distancing. Face coverings are strongly encouraged for students and staff, but no longer required. These plans will continue through summer school.
FACILITIES
The first meeting of the facilities committee was held on Monday, May 3. The purpose of this group is to gather additional feedback on facility needs in order to provide the best information possible for our plan revision. The revised plan will be submitted to the Board for your use in setting future facilities priorities.
New hot water heaters have been installed and Phase 1 of preventative maintenance has begun on the HVAC systems.
The board approved additional epoxy flooring in the remaining middle school, high school, and intermediate school bathrooms. At this time, the tile floor currently installed is unable to be properly cleaned. The district intends to use the one-time federal coronavirus response funds for this project as it is related to the health and safety of our students and staff.
SCHOOL SAFETY
The Safety Committee held its annual spring meeting earlier this month. Safety improvements made this year include upgraded camera systems and a new intercom system. Discussions continue on other safety needs such as additional keyless entry doors and safety buckets.
