Afterschool Data Factsheets
for Nevada
|
For years, afterschool programs have kept kids safe, inspired them to learn, and helped working families. America After 3PM—the largest survey on afterschool, spanning 16 years—found that unmet demand has skyrocketed. For every child in an afterschool program, 3 are waiting to get in.
Demand remains strong during the pandemic, as parents see programs providing critical supports. Thanks to the support of the National Conference of State Legislatures, the Nevada Afterschool Network was able to collect information on program availability, features, and needs of afterschool in our state. We invite you to view the factsheets and use them as tools to advocate for afterschool in our state.

What Does It Mean To Be
Trauma-Informed?
A 4-Part Video Explainer
|
Before the pandemic, nearly half of all children in the U.S. had been exposed to a traumatic event, according to federal data, and more than 1 in 5 had been exposed to multiple. The implications of this exposure are life-changing. Studies show that children who experience traumatic stress are more likely to struggle in the classroom. But as our understanding of how students are affected by trauma expands, so, too, does our understanding of how to build a school environment to help them.

The Million Girls Moonshot focuses on the Engineering Mindset which we believe compliments the STEM mindset, as well as innovation, invention, and entrepreneurial education.
The Nevada Afterschool Network is excited to join the Million Girls Moonshot in this movement and empower the girls in our state. Stay tuned for exciting STEM opportunities for NV girls!

Federal Afterschool Policy Update: Seizing the
Funding Opportunities in the CRRSA
|
When the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act passed Congress and was signed into law in late December, the clock started ticking on a number of potential funding opportunities that can be used at the state and local level to support afterschool and summer learning opportunities for students.
The education sections of the CRRSA in particular are focused on supporting students: since afterschool and summer programs are key to students’ recovery this spring, summer and fall, there are multiple points of entry into the funding opportunities in the law. [Continue Reading]
