Something unexpected and extraordinary is happening. The last newsletter I sent in October described my 60th birthday party and the surprise after-party. Aryeh had worked for months compiling footage and memorabilia to tell the story of my musical life on a big screen in our barn theater, I still can't believe he did that.
That experience had him delving deep into my history in recording and he has since had us go back in time listening on headphones to every album and track from my beginnings, long before our partnership which started in 2007.
This of course was an epic undertaking filled with so many memories. The record labels, the recording studios, months and months I spent writing the music and preparing the parts for every production. No words can describe the mountains and valleys that were traversed in creating the music. I was always devoted to the next all-consuming recording while also playing street fairs and concert tours and hospitals and everything in between. From early 90's to the present.
Many of my older albums I hadn't heard in years. But when I was re-experiencing this music I was reminded of how much care was put into the production, orchestration and arrangements to unite the breathtaking sound of all those acoustic instruments. Not only by me but by my closest compadres working alongside and some fine musician friends too. We created a truly multi-dimensional experience, especially with headphones. I'll have more to share about that in time.
All this is to say, my wonderful husband Aryeh is passionately suggesting creating a 25+ year retrospective of my music. It will likely be a digital re-mastered release in volumes with a booklet telling the stories around the music and the adventures of the time. Later this year, I will also share the movie that Aryeh made with my added thoughts and content on it. Folks are always surprised at all that happened but at the very least it will be a way for me to look back on my life and understand where the time went and all that it took to be here now. Every person has a life rich with stories and adventures. I wish we all would create the story of our lives and all we learned.
So, I will share updates and music in the months to come. There are no words to express my appreciation for your staying connected to me and how much good energy and kind words I still get from folks who make room in their lives for music both recorded and in concert.
I think about you all, all the time, when I see every audience gathered I know that each person has a fascinating life and stories and dreams just like me. Not a day goes by without feeling so fortunate to live a life of music and that is because of you, the listeners who have supported this all along. When I look out this window at the beautiful fields below, it's because of you and because of music, and all those hills and valleys traversed. I encourage you to revisit things you have created, that maybe you dismissed because they are old, or you didn't think is good enough. You will be surprised like me and hopefully gentle and appreciative of your creative self and good intentions. All art is a good thing no matter its form.
I always say that I didn’t mean to write this much, but luckily if it's too much I figure folks will just scroll on down. Straight to the pictures of our famous cat Nigel which is really the whole purpose of this newsletter and of life itself.
Thank you again, all the best to you and yours, and Happy soon-to-be Spring!
Lisa Lynne
