Ontario Implements Provincewide Emergency Brake Effective April 3rd
Effective Saturday April 3rd at 12:01 am, the Ontario Government will implement the “emergency break” for the entire province due to a surge in COVID-19 cases. All 34 public health regions will move into shutdown for a period of at least four weeks.

As a result, outdoor dining and outdoor fitness are suspended. Personal care services scheduled to reopen in Grey-Lockdown zones on April 12 will remain closed. Social gatherings are limited to five. Non-essential retail will stay open at 25 per cent capacity, and essential grocery stores and pharmacies will be at 50 per cent.

We remind everyone to keep following all measures to help control the spread of COVID-19 in our community:

  • Stay home as much as possible
  • When out in public practise physical distancing and wear well-fitted masks
  • Only have close contact with people in your household or essential supports
  • Get tested if you think you have or have been exposed to COVID-19

Spring Maintenance and Clean-up Work Begins in Mississauga
Mississauga residents can expect to see more activity on roads and in residential areas across the city as work crews begin the City’s annual spring maintenance and clean-up program. The work is the result of winter weather affecting infrastructure such as roads, bike lanes, sidewalks and more.
Once the winter season is over, our staff continue to maintain the 5,600 lane kilometres of roads and on-street bike lanes, as well as other infrastructure residents rely on year-round.

The City’s spring maintenance and clean-up program includes:

While City staff monitor and inspect areas of the city that need to be cleaned or repaired, residents can also help keep Mississauga’s infrastructure safe and in good repair. Residents can report potholes and damaged sidewalks, curbs and sod by calling 311 (905-615-4311 outside City limits), using the Pingstreet mobile app or submitting an online service request.

As spring maintenance work begins, the City reminds residents:

  • Drive according to road conditions
  • Slow down in work areas and give crews and equipment lots of space
  • Respect and follow any barricades and signage at work sites
  • Do not approach work crews or equipment at any time
  • Be patient and expect delays on the road during repairs

Residential Rat Control Subsidy Pilot Program
Rats are a common pest in large urban centres that can cause damage by gnawing and burrowing.

To support Region of Peel residents, the Region has launched a Residential Rat Control Subsidy Pilot Program to assist homeowners with the costs of controlling rats on the exterior of their residential properties.
The pilot program will be available from March 22, 2021 until March 31, 2022 and will reimburse eligible homeowners for 50 per cent of the cost in hiring a Region of Peel approved pest control vendor, up to a maximum of $200 per calendar year per residential Peel address.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Determine that the exterior of your property has a rat infestation
  • Hire a Region of Peel approved pest control vendor
  • Complete the application and submit all applicable documents including invoices

What you can do:

Rats seek out places to live that provide them with everything they need to survive, such as food, water, shelter, and safe ways to travel. Some ways you can help keep rats away from your neighbourhood are to:

  • Eliminate food supply
  • Eliminate sources of water
  • Eliminate potential shelter
  • Eliminate points of entry

Launching Project Noisemaker to Reduce Noise Pollution
Region of Peel – Road Safety Services has heard the community's concerns surrounding the noise pollution of excessively loud vehicles on the roadways, in residential areas, at all hours day and night. We are launching Project Noisemaker earlier this year, beginning Friday, March 26, 2021, and extending it into the fall to tackle this issue.
For the next six months, this ongoing project will focus on reducing the number of motor vehicles with modified and/or excessively loud exhaust systems on the roads. Vehicles will be subject to charges, including Improper Muffler and Unnecessary Noise, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) or By-law 360-79. The penalties under the HTA include fines of $110 upon conviction or $305 for By-law 360-79 charges.

Vehicles found to be unlawfully modified will be reported to the Insurance Bureau of Canada with the potential of a policy suspension.

We encourage vehicle owners to repair modified exhaust systems and avoid using devices such as factory-issued mechanisms to alter and increase their vehicles' sound in quiet, residential areas.

Our commitment to road safety is a crucial policing function. Our officers remain vigilant twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, enforcing the speed limit, dealing with aggressive driving and impaired driving, keeping the community safe as a top priority, and increasing the quality of living for everyone.

Anyone with information concerning aggressive driving or illegal street racing activities can contact the police by calling 905-453-3311. The public can also file a driving complaint through Road Watch or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or at peelcrimestoppers.ca.
