This Sunday we will receive a special offering for Presbyterian Disaster Assistance to support organizations that help immigrant families at the border. These organizations assist with shelter when immigrant families are released, help with transportation, and provide medical attention.

Gifts to this offering can be made using the offering envelopes in the pew racks on Sunday, by writing "PDA" on the memo line of a check made payable to Fourth Presbyterian Church, or online.

It’s a beautiful day for a concert!

Another sign of summer at Fourth Church is the launch of our annual School Supply Drive!

Women at Fourth are busy coordinating our efforts to collect backpacks filled with school supplies for the students in Chicago Lights Summer Day and the Dance Academy Summer Intensive.

Before those summer programs wrap up at the end of July and the beginning of August, we want to have filled backpacks for each of the students to use to begin their new school year this fall.

We’re also collecting school supplies for our Chicago Lights Tutoring program.

You can pick up supply lists or drop off donations during Coffee Hour on Sunday morning or at the reception desk during the week.

Come to church this Sunday ready to do some grocery shopping!

Representatives of the Chicago Lights Urban Farm will be on hand during Coffee Hour this weekend with a variety of fresh produce available for purchase.

Enjoy the delicious harvest of the season while also supporting the youth education and workforce development programs at the Farm.

You can also stop by the Farm (444 W. Chicago) on Saturdays between 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to shop the produce at their Farmstand.

This coming week several of our youth will be heading to Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, for Presbyterian Youth Triennium.

This event, which is held every three years, brings together thousands of youth from across the United States for four days of worship, play, study, service, and reflection.

Please keep the youth, their leaders, and all the participants in your prayers in the days ahead as they gather around the theme “A Classic Melody for a New Generation’s Voice!”

We are delighted to share that we will be welcoming a new Director of Operational Ministries to our staff on Thursday, July 25.

Andrea Denney has accepted the offer to serve in this newly defined role, one that lifts up the ways in which we do the work of the church operationally. As Director of Operational Ministries Andrea will be working with our building, facilities, and security teams; IT; human resources; food services; and event planning.

Andrea has been working in operations for nearly twenty-five years and for the past eighteen years has served as vice president of operations at first Doyle Research Associates and now MJ Holding. She brings a wealth of experience and strong recommendations both for her commitment to empowering the teams with which she works and for creating a culture of collaboration that ensures efficient, effective, and supportive results across the organization.

In addition Andrea comes to us with a keen appreciation for the operational life of the church, as she also presently serves as a part-time pastor to Calvary United Protestant Church, a Presbyterian congregation in Park Forest.

Andrea will be resigning from that role as she begins her work with us here, and so we ask you to join us in keeping the Calvary United congregation in your prayers as they prepare for this transition.

We are very excited that this new Director of Operational Ministries position offers opportunity to intentionally lift up the ministry of operational work as it integrates with other expressions of who we are as a church. We are grateful that Andrea will be joining us in this endeavor!
What areas of our mission or ministry would you like to see Fourth Church prioritize?

Into which of those areas would you would want to invest energy and emphasis?

Are there areas you would like to see reimagined?

Over the summer, a Strategic Directions task force is meeting to gather responses to those questions and to help discern priorities for the next three to five years of our life together as a congregation.

Please plan to attend one of two Strategic Directions conversations coming up in August. The task force would be most grateful for your sharing your thoughts with them!

Strategic Directions Conversations
Sunday, August 4 at 12:15 p.m.
in the Bumpus Room

Sunday, August 11 at 9:45 a.m.
in Borwell Dining Room

If you are unable to be with us for one of those conversations, the task force would greatly appreciate your emailing to them (at priorities@fourthchurch.org) your thoughts about priorities and areas of commitment.
Our Equitable Education Group has invited Ralph Matire, Executive Director of the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability, and Gaby Roman, Policy Director, to speak to us this coming Tuesday, July 16 at 6:00 p.m. in Room 4F.

All are invited to come learn about fiscal and economic issues that impact Chicago Public School funding and how we might have an impact on ensuring more equitable funding, resources, and opportunities for CPS students.

Do you have time to share this summer? Might one of the following opportunities match your time, talent, interests, or schedule? We could use your help!

  • Docents to give church tours on a rotating basis, Sundays following the 11:00 a.m. worship service; training provided
  • Cooks and servers for Meals Ministry Sunday Night Supper at the church
