HCMS Spelling Bee

Congratulations to all who qualified for the HCMS School Spelling Bee, which took place on Thursday, January 18.

This year’s spelling bee was the closest Ms. Moye has ever been part of with the top 2 ending in a tie after the initial bee then going almost 20 rounds until a winner was crowned. The top 4 students (pictured in the header) were:

1st: Ishani Majumdar, 6th

2nd: Senuth Amarasekera, 8th

T-3rd: Noelani Music Hawkins, 8th

T-3rd: Ryan Rodriguez, 8th

Ishani then went on to pass all rounds of the OCPS Spelling Bee and qualify for the Orange County Regional Bee!! A-m-a-z-i-n-g! (She is pictured above downtown at the OCPS Ronald Blocker Educational Leadership Center.)

Classroom Spotlight

Mr. Gomez

Our visual art students created a winter landscape using aerial perspective. Aerial perspective, method of creating the illusion of depth, or recession, in a painting or drawing by modulating color to simulate changes effected by the atmosphere on the colors of things seen at a distance.

Olivia Costa, 8th

Samanta Ferre, 6th

Trinity Putriment, 8th

Melanie Luzardo, 6th

Dylan Wertz, 8th

Angelica Dorta, 7th

** Correction from last Eagles’ View spotlight on Mr. Gomez’s class: Miah Beltran is in 7th grade, not 8th grade. **

Miah's (7th grade) poinsettia artwork as featured in the prior edition.

Ms. Flores

Digital Art students create storyboards and digital drawings of Olaf and other Disney characters.

Spanish Spelling Bee

Gabriela Dugarte Cordero (8th grade, on right) and Alejandra Rodriguez Echenique (7th grade, on left) took part in the OCPS Spanish Spelling Bee and made it through many rounds before missing a word and out of the running. Gabriela’s missed word was yegua and Alejandra's was bandazo.

Food Rescue

Food Rescue is still running strong here at HCMS! We have donated over 8,000 pounds so far this year! All of the donated food goes to the Salvation Army who gives it to those in need. Bravo to Ms. Moye’s 1st and 5th periods for being leaders of this program, to Ms. H for helping get the food into the Salvation Army truck, Ms. Moye for organizing it all, administration for supporting it, and all students who donate!
