Fair Housing Month marks the anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act of 1968, which put essential protections against discrimination and harassment into federal law and also requires communities to take steps to undo the historical patterns of segregation and exclusion. It’s also a time to renew our fight for safe, stable, and affordable homes for all!
This year’s theme is “Inclusive Communities and the Importance of Home” and the month is full of free public education and art events to raise awareness about the need for everyone to have a place to call home, free from discrimination, and about the positive role that inclusive, affordable housing plays in thriving communities. Virtual and in-person activities include workshops, community discussions, library events, the all-ages HeART & Home Community Art Project, and an art contest and exhibit.
