AN OP-ED FROM THE KHSAA
KBA WORKING WITH THE KHSAA TO RESOLVE ISSUES
Over the last year, many members have expressed concerns related to the partnership between the KHSAA and NFHS. While I cannot report any major change in the video streaming dynamics, I am happy to share that KBA leadership has diligently and effectively been working to represent broadcasters concerns with KHSAA leadership. On multiple occasions, I have had the opportunity to meet with Commissioner Julian Tackett to begin a process of mending fences. Through this, not only was I invited to participate in COVID protocol discussions for the Sweet 16, but also able to bring forward several incidents of concern with member schools, which were ultimately and thankfully resolved by the KHSAA.

As your advocate, I firmly believe our purpose is to represent and protect the interests of our members. Regarding the KHSAA, I am optimistic that an open line of communication is the first step toward resolving future concerns related to broadcast rights.

To that end, I asked Commissioner Tackett to speak directly to broadcasters and journalists in regards to winter sports and the upcoming Sweet 16. His comments are below.
Kentucky High School Athletic Association

JEFF SCHMIDT'S SALES TIP OF THE WEEK
WILL YOU TRY THIS?
If you’re like most sellers we talk to, today is the day you review your plan and start making calls to your clients and prospects and plan how you can have a successful week. For many the pit in their stomach developed on the way to the office. Whether that office is in your home or you drove to an office.  We believe the goal most sellers have is to make a positive difference in the lives of their clients, prospects, and communities.

Here are two simple things you can do to make a difference.
  1. Sincerely compliment someone
  2. Show appreciation for what they are doing

As you structure your call list this week, would you try this?  Create a list of clients and or prospects, call them and find something you can complement them for, and then thank them for that contribution. You can do this on the phone, or for extra credit, write out 5 hand-written notes and mail them today.

In my experience, nothing gets a more positive response, and nothing makes a person feel better than a sincere compliment and appreciation for what they are doing.  Here’s an example for a car dealer:

Brad, I really admire how your company has responded to the safety concerns of the public during this pandemic by offering contact-free service. As one of your customers, I really appreciate the ability to drop my vehicle off, text you, and know that you’ll take it from there.  I wanted you to know how much I appreciate you and the work you are doing.

This will catch them off guard because they are not used to it, and that’s exactly why it’s so powerful.  No sales pitch, just a compliment and appreciation and be ready to hang up – if it’s a phone call. If you sent a card be ready for them to call you to thank you for the note.

If you aspire to make a difference in the lives of others, nothing is more powerful than a compliment and appreciation.  Will you add that to your activities this week?  Even just a few?  Then please let us know about the responses you receive.
Your courage and willingness to try new things has always been impressive, and we so appreciate you taking the time to interact with us. It’s your feedback and experiences that can help us shape a future we can all be proud of.

Thank you, we look forward to hearing from you.

NEWSLETTER QUICK NOTES...
"TAKE IT FROM ME" COVID-19 VACCINE CAMPAIGN
Adults who are hesitant to take the COVID-19 vaccine may be likely to do so if they know someone who has received it. That’s the premise of the new “Take It From Me” campaign, launched today by the Kentucky Medical Association (KMA), Kentucky Foundation for Medical Care (KFMC), the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky (FHKy), the Kentucky Hospital Association (KHA), and the Kentucky Primary Care Association (KPCA) to encourage residents to receive the shot when it’s their turn.

“Take It From Me” includes social media advertisements as well as a series of video and print public service announcements that the partner groups will be asking media outlets and health providers across the state to share, particularly as vaccine eligibility in Kentucky now has been expanded to include all adults ages 50 and older. The PSAs feature a diverse group of residents reassuring others to “take it from me” that the COVID-19 vaccine is safe and effective. Click HERE to access the campaign materials.
NAB NEEDS YOUR INPUT IN SHORT SURVEY
The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) is conducting a short, five-minute survey to explore how it can continue to support and improve the industry.

Each individual response is completely confidential and anonymous. The survey closes March 31.
DON'T LET YOUR MARCH MADNESS TURN INTO MARCH LIABILITY
With the NCAA’s March Madness basketball tournament now underway, Mitch Stabbe has written a two-part series about how broadcasters can navigate the use of the terms and logos associated with the tournament to steer clear of legal liability. (Part 1) (Part 2)
