Early Release & Meeting

For tomorrow, Thursday, January 27, Elyria Catholic will have an early release day at 1:55 pm for faculty and seniors, so faculty can attend a virtual Chalta meeting at 2:00 pm.

Seniors ONLY
Will have early release at 1:55 pm.
 
Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors 
Will attend assembly at 2:00 pm in the Performing Arts Center regarding graduation requirements and scheduling classes for the 2022 - 2023 school year.
Registration for 2022-2023
Students received their Course Recommendation Forms in homeroom yesterday, January 25. Early in February the tuition contract along with tuition assistance and scholarship information will be mailed to families.

We anticipate several classes for the 2022-2023 school year will have waitlists, therefore we urge students to be fully registered by February 18. Securing a space for your student for the 2022-2023 school year is as easy as 1-2-3:

  1. Sign the EC Tuition Contract
  2. Include $200 Registration Fee (pay by cash, check or online at elyriacatholic.com/tuition-and-fees and type "Registration Fee" in 'What Miscellaneous Fee(s) Are You Paying?'
  3. Return contract and $200 fee to the Main Office by Feb.18.
Parent/Teacher Conferences coming soon!
Parent/Teacher Conferences will take place on Wedesday, February 9 starting at 3:30 pm. We will offer both virtual and in-person conferences. More information will be available soon.
Report Cards

Report card information is now available to be viewed online in Progressbook. Please continue to reach out to your student's teachers with any questions you may have.
IOWA Tests

On Friday, February 11 we will be conducting IOWA testing from 8am-12pm for 11th and 12th grade students. Mrs. Adkins will reach out to students and their families with additional information.
Masks Optional starting Monday, Jan. 31

Starting Monday, January 31, masks will be optional at Elyria Catholic. We strongly recommend that those non-vaccinated continue to wear masks. This is a reminder that students should get their vaccinations and boosters.
Tutoring Services

Happy New Year and Happy New Semester! As we move forward in the school year, it is refreshing to start a new Semester. For some, it is a time to wipe the slate clean and begin anew.

So it seemed timely to remind everyone that Elyria Catholic offers in-house tutoring for English Language Arts, Spanish, and ACT Preparation free of charge to all students. This comes as a considerable savings as there are many other companies charging fees for similar services.

Contact Miss Evans (Spanish) and/or Mrs. Heinrich (English Language Arts/ACT prep) today to schedule before or after school tutoring sessions for your student. Simply send either an email message to arrange a time that works for both you and your student.

Our Special Ed tutor, Mrs Bullock, is planning to come on board also when her schedule permits, so reach out to her if you have any questions or would like to make arrangements. Have a Blessed and Prosperous New Year!!
Athletic Department News
2020 Girls Basketball Team
Join us this Friday, January 28 to help the Elyria Catholic Athletic Department celebrate the accomplishments of the 2020 Girls Basketball team. We will recognize the team following the boys varsity game. Here is the schedule of the night's games.

  • 4:30 pm - Boys JV basketball
  • 6:00 pm - Boys Varsity
  • 7:30 pm - Girls Varsity
Panther Club Meeting

The next Panther Club meeting will take place on the first Monday of February instead of the second. Please mark your calendar to join us on Monday, February 7 at 6 pm.
Track & Field Prepare NOW

Athletes interested in joining the Track & Field team this spring are highly encouraged to attend winter conditioning sessions to get prepared for the outdoor season this spring.

EC Track & Field will also be participating in a limited number of indoor meets this winter, but only athletes who are conditioning will be allowed to compete. Contact Coach Barber (barber@elyriacatholic.com) or Coach Cunningham (cunningham@elyriacatholic.com) for more information!
Campus Ministry
RJStrong T-Shirts
RJ Hricovec is in the 4th grade at St. Mary's in Avon and was recently diagnosed with lymphoma. His mom, Abby, is our business teacher at EC and his brother, William, is a sophomore. St. Mary's is selling RJStrong shirts as a way to raise funds to help with his treatments.

Sizes available from Youth XS to 5XL. Ordering will run through Sunday, January 30th with pickup/delivery in mid-February. Please consider purchasing one as a way to help the Hricovec family!

Kairos IV Retreat - REMINDER
The Kairos retreat for juniors and seniors will be held at St. Leonard Youth Retreat Center in Avon from Thursday, February 24 - Sunday, February 27. Kairos is an overnight retreat experience that gives students extended time for self-reflection and developing a personal relationship with God, while building relationships with each other. Registration and permission forms must be turned in to Ms. Lanzola by Friday, February 11.

Parental Mental Health Tip of the Week:
Learn from other parents. Each state sponsors a Family Run Organization to provide educational advocacy for youth with mental or behavioral health struggles. They have many tools, workshops and conferences to share with parents and caregivers on how to advocate for these young people. The University of Akron’s Chapter of Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is hosting an event called SWE Shadow Day on Tuesday, March 8, 2021 from 8:00am to 1:00pm. This event is open to any female sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are interested in pursuing higher education in the field of engineering. Please review following links for details.
Panthers Prowl with Pride
The Culture Club is New!







Culture Club members along with Mrs. Heinrich, club moderator, Mrs. Finicle, and Ms. Andriano enjoyed dinner at Cravings Thai Cuisine in Rocky River on January 19.
The Culture Club welcomes all students, faculty, and family to participate in cultivating and celebrating cultural diversity at Elyria Catholic High School. Founded by Junior Diya Saigal, the club plans to offer not only new dining experiences, but additional forms of entertainment through film, literature, and yes, perhaps even interpretative dance. 

The Club meets on campus on the 2nd Wednesday of every month to select a restaurant for the upcoming Wednesday.
"This club means a lot to me. As the only Indian student at Elyria Catholic, I felt very excluded. I had my group of friends, but I wasn’t able to share my cultural experiences as I would with someone from my own community. I thought it was time to create a comforting community for students who felt just as isolated as I did. It would be a safe place for us to embrace our diversity and share our stories with others. I hope this will be the legacy that I pass down after my final years and that it will be continued on for years to come!"

The KEY Club

The EC Key Club members are volunteering their time and talents in the community. This past Monday, at O'Neill's Healthcare in North Ridgeville a certain Elyria Catholic Panther, Mark Dyson '24, shared his amazing gift by playing the piano for the residents. Mrs. Angie Finicle, club moderator, shared a beautiful letter she received from a grateful family member...

Dear Ms. Finicle,

Yesterday, while visiting my Mom a young man from Elyria Catholic entered the Memory Unit Activities room and played the piano. The greatest thing happened next...

  1. A resident was crying and the nurse was trying to console her. When the piano music reached her, she stopped crying.
  2. My mother was asking me (for the hundredth time) how my deceased grandmother was when the music began, she stopped asking.
  3. Another resident just finished dinner and sat mesmerized by the music.
  4. One resident who doesn't like to leave her room, joined the others in the activity room.
  5. Another tapped her feet to the music.
  6. The music could be heard down the hall and those in their rooms were able to hear it.
  7. The nurses and aides, angels here on earth, had it a little bit easier because the residents were calmer.

Just wanted you to know what a difference was made!

Elyria Catholic Evening for Excellence: Casino Royale Returns

All are invited to join us on Saturday, April 9. All proceeds will be used to install air conditioning in the cafeteria and coliseum for the safety and comfort of our students and guests. The silent auction is a hallmark of this event and has raised over $30,000 in the past. We need everyone's help to make the auction successful. We are looking for:

  • vacation rentals
  • tickets to sporting events
  • foursomes at golf courses
  • electronics
  • gift certificates to area restaurants
  • health and beauty services,
  • products for the home.

Join the Gala Committee and meet new friends!
Consider joining us as we plan the 2022 Gala. You will meet other parents while having a lot of fun at the same time. Please check your calendars with the upcoming schedule listed. All meetings begin at 7 pm and take place in the Foods and Nutrition classroom in the North Wing. Parking is available in the near lot. Please enter through the breezeway doors, turn right, then left to follow the long hallway to the end where you turn right to go up the stairs. The classroom is at the top of the stairs.

Order Online NOW
The Panther Spirit Shoppe online order form is up and running again. Some items are currently on order, including the Uniform Crews. We ask for your patience as we work to update and fill items.

The Spirit Shoppe will be open starting before the varsity boys game this Friday night. Shop hours next week are 9 am - 1 pm Monday - Friday.
