Titanium dioxide: EU ban expected

Dear members,

As you were aware, the European Commission and Member States met on 18 May to address the opinion of the European Food Safety Authority who stated that the use of Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) could no longer be considered as safe as a food additive.

A ban is now almost inevitable. The question is when the ban will take effect and whether a transition period would be agreed? It is understood that there is pressure from Member States to take a quick decision.

Such an EU ban could well shake up the use of the additive worldwide. We will continue to keep you informed on developments on this issue.

Kind regards,

Cynthia
