An American Eagle Cuff Bracelet

perched on the lid of a vase... from antiquity?

Did you know?

"The Founding Fathers chose the bird to represent our country in 1782, but eagle imagery can be traced back much further back in time than that...Traits we commonly associate with the eagle, such as strength, shrewdness, and leadership, emerged in ancient Egypt over 4,000 years ago. The Romans appropriated eagle imagery when they conquered Egypt in 300 B.C...." More

These two Bird Brooches were presented to former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright by the American Friends of the Czech Republic at a Gala in the Embassy of the Czech Republic, Washington D.C. on May 16, 2017. (My sister, Barbara Dillon Hillas, was in attendance). On nother note, my sister also helped organize a meeting between then Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, under President Clinton, and Desmond Tutu, while in South Africa. R.I.P Secretary Albright.

The Making Of A Beautiful Cuff

Cuff Bracelets New 1 copy.jpg and waxes.jpg

"The Diolun Designs items that my sister has created are all done using what is called the Greek/Roman Lost Wax method of casting, meaning that you sculpt the piece by carving it in wax, which is then used to create a rubber mold.

The wax melts, hence the “lost” in the name of the method. Once you have the rubber mold, you pour the noble metals, which become an individual one-of-a-kind piece. Once the piece comes out of the mold, you must polish it and finish it…one by one. Therefore, no one piece is exactly the same as another, because the jewelry is not machine stamped, the way most jewelry is done today. It is an artistically laborious process and a labor of love.

What all this means is that each item in Diolun's [Cynthia Dillon's] collections have their own lines, curves, nuances and the like, which make each individual piece totally and truly unique. It is not like precision/laser copying done with a machine that might take a flower and go through its contours and reproduce it exactly the same. My sister sculpts by hand, not by precision machinery." ~ Barbara Dillon Hillas. (More)
