Across the US there has been an increase in the passage of dyslexia legislation, including stipulations for educator training. This webinar will provide resources to help educators better understand dyslexia training programs and help determine the most appropriate training path for them. The webinar will also help parents evaluate the dyslexia training used by local education agencies and/or tutors.

Legislative Updates SB 48
- The State Board of Education will meet tomorrow (March 25) to discuss a proposed rule change that relates to the Dyslexia Law. A concern is that the change does not include specific information on identification and acceptable, evidence-based interventions for students at the end of the identification process.
- The Senate approved HB81 with a line item of $1.6 Million to fund SB48. This keeps SB 48 from being an unfunded mandate. Now HB81 goes back to the House.
- SB47, the Georgia Special Needs Scholarship legislation passed out of the House Committee, by substitute, in a bi-partisan 11-5 vote. SB 47 requires Georgia’s scholarship program to grant money not only to students who have individualized education plans but also to students with accommodation plans under section 504 of the federal Rehabilitation Act and students with a diagnosis of a specific disability. It is now on the calendar for a House vote tomorrow (March 25).
