Have you made your voting plan for the 2023 Election? Ohioans are voting on two statewide issues regarding reproductive rights and the legalization of recreational marijuana, in addition to a host of elections in local communities. Early voting is available through November 5; polls are open Tuesday, November 7 from 6:30am to 7:30pm; and absentee ballots should be postmarked by end of business November 6. NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH | |
Wright State University's Indigenous American Cultural Student Association (IACSA) and the Asian and Native American Center (ANA) invite you to recognize Native American Heritage Month across the next five weeks. Although NAHM is recognized nationally in November, the celebrations on campus will begin October 25 and run through November 30. Please direct questions to ana-center@wright.edu. Along with the Student Veterans Association, the ANA Center and IACSA invite you to a screening of The Warrior Tradition, the nationwide Community Documentary Night choice for November 2023. This film tells the astonishing, heartbreaking, inspiring, and largely untold story of Native Americans in the United States military. Why would they put their lives on the line for the very government that took their homelands? The film relates the stories of Native American warriors from their own points of view – stories of service and pain, of courage and fear. Those interested can also register here to join the nationwide virtual discussion of the the film on Sunday, November 5 at 7pm.

Set in a waiting room at Kettering Hospital, Waiting for Ella by Michael London (Seneca) is the story of four Native American friends living in Dayton, Ohio, who struggle to stay together after the leader of their a capella singing group, Tohtónha, has a health crisis and may no longer be the visionary that keeps them together. Play runtime is 80 minutes and tickets are $10. The ANA Center has a limited number of tickets available to students for this performance; email ana-center@wright.edu for details.

Join the Ohio Women’s Alliance Action Fund (OWA+AF), New Voices for Reproductive Justice (NVRJ), and Ohio Families Unite for Political Action and Change (OFUPAC) are joining together to launch OH YES Reproductive Justice Blitz to build community and mobilize Black voters around voting YES on Issue 1 for Reproductive Freedom! Both OWA and NVRJ are the only Black led Reproductive Justice organizations working on voter education, advocacy, and protecting abortion access in the state of Ohio.
Come out and join us for food, music, fun, and community! All are welcome. Please bring your family, friends, and neighbors!

Black Experiences with Reproductive Care
Tamika Odum, a PhD candidate in the department of Sociology at the University of Cincinnati seeks participants for a study that aims to understand Black experiences with reproductive care and ultimately to improve the relationships between healthcare providers and those they serve. Participants must be 18+ years of age; identify as Black, and live in Ohio, Kentucky, or West Virginia; and have ended or considered ending a pregnancy. Participants can receive a $100 gift card for their time. Follow the link above to register for participation.
