Message From the Chapter President

It was wonderful to see so many of you at the February Membership Meeting. I enjoyed the candid conversations our groups had related to R&R, the healthy tips for a strong immune system from Jennifer DeLaura and closing out our evening with some amazing yoga led by Jaime Wooten. This meeting is only one example of the representation and strength of women in our chapter.

As we move through February, the month designated to honor Black History, we appreciate and acknowledge amazing women of color. Take a moment… take a deep breath. Regardless of political party, we, the United States of America are witnessing history in the making as Kamala Harris serves as our first African American, Asian, WOMAN vice president. This amazing ad shows the impact this moment has on women and girls around the country. Check out more amazing Black Women in History Here. Be a Ruby Bridge, holding your head high as you walk into new territory. Be a Shirley Chisholm, shattering ceilings put above you. Our country is built on the strength of women, including yours. Take a moment to reflect on your own accomplishments, your own strength as a woman. Think about all of the roles you play in your life, whether it be a mother, a wife, a manager, an owner, an activist, an artist, a healer…. Think about how amazing YOU are! I leave you with this beautiful performance of Andra Day’s “Rise Up”. Remember as strong beautiful women, we can all overcome any challenge thrown at us.

I look forward to seeing you all at our March Business Meeting!

Kindred
By Octavia E. Butler

The visionary author’s masterpiece pulls us—along with her Black female hero—through time to face the horrors of slavery and explore the impacts of racism, sexism, and white supremacy then and now.

Dana, a modern black woman, is celebrating her twenty-sixth birthday with her new husband when she is snatched abruptly from her home in California and transported to the antebellum South. Rufus, the white son of a plantation owner, is drowning, and Dana has been summoned to save him. Dana is drawn back repeatedly through time to the slave quarters, and each time the stay grows longer, more arduous, and more dangerous until it is uncertain whether or not Dana's life will end, long before it has a chance to begin.
