Your global scholars traveled this summer. Solo Trips + Cultural Immersion.
Your donations helped fund three global scholars for 3-week educational trips done independently. Pictured here is Mykim Nguyen, who went to Taiwan for cultural and language immersion. Sam Freeman went to Japan for a homestay and to research the transportation system. Kennah Davis went to Japan for a study abroad program that included classes and field trips about anime, manga, gaming, and pop culture. She also used her Japanese language skills.
Kennah said, "I get super-zoned in on my interests, so studying in Tokyo was one of the best things I have ever done. Tokyo is amazingly clean and full of memorable locations like the Pokemon Center. It was inspiring to see their legendary 'character' culture come to life. And, I made loads of new friends in my program from all over the world."
FUN FACT: Freya Quist, DCIS alumna, scholarship recipient, and owner of TRAVEL CULTURE, lives in Taiwan and was on-call as a resource if Mykim needed anything during her stay. How great is that? DCIS alumni are everywhere around the world.

It’s unlike any graduation anywhere. At the DCIS Baker graduation, six languages were spoken, and student leaders talked a bit about themselves and their dreams during an intimate and remarkable celebration held at the DCPA complex in May 2023.
Chinese teacher Ms. Peggy Liu and her world language students celebrated the Luna New Year at DCIS Baker. Ms. Liu is leading a group trip to China in 2024.
The itinerary includes Beijing (Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Jingshan Mountain, and Tea House), Great Wall, Hangzhou, Temple of Heaven, Lingering Garden, Jade Buddha Temple, and Shanghai. Plus a ride on the bullet train, gondola, and river cruise. You can be assured plenty of Maderine Chinese will be practiced along the way as these young global travelers experience China.

Group travel is being planned for Costa Rica, Japan, and Italy. Stay tuned for updates, itineraries, and student photos.
As fall turns to winter, we remind you that December 5, 2023, is COLORADO GIVES DAY. We hope you consider making a donation to our small but mighty nonprofit organization. You can make a donation anytime before December 5 at your convenience. Fact: We get reduced bank fees and are eligible for a community grant if we get enough donations during COLORADO GIVES DAY. Donating this way allows your donation go further.

Back-to-School Events at DCIS Schools
The Travel Clubbers stopped by the DCIS Foundation booth at Back-to-School Night at DCIS Baker. They were still excited about the trip they took to NYC and wanted the donors to know they are thankful. They especially liked the HAMILTON play. The tickets were graciously donated.
Alex Wenzel, Principal at DCIS Fairmont, and Theresa Meier Conley, Executive Director of the DCIS Foundation, chat about the dual-language immersion program and all the new collaboration between DCIS Fairmont and DCIS Baker for Spanish language learners.
Alumnus and past scholarship recipient Arlo Tavel earned an award to study in Italy due to his AP exam score. Arlo’s teacher, Marcela Quesada Colonia, cheered him on during the Zoom ceremony with the Italian Embassy on October 23, 2023. Well done!

Finding Time to Make a Difference.
DCIS Foundation proudly announces the addition of Julia Spratt to our board of directors team.
Our board of directors team is a group of working professionals who are greatly respected in their community and have earned their seats at our table. They find the time in their schedule because our cause is important and we make a difference day in and day out. These individuals and their predecessors have donated over 83,000 hours to DCIS and travel initiatives since 1997.
