Barb's Medical Minute

15% of adults have some hearing loss, but even worse, 50% over the age of 75 have disabling hearing loss. There’s no one cause for age-related hearing impairment, but genetics, exposure to loud noises and nutrition all play a role. Viruses and bacteria can also be contributing factors.

So here we go again with what you should eat to protect your hearing:

  • Magnesium helps destroy free radicals that can damage hairs the carry sound to the auditory nerve.
  • Low levels of Potassium may disrupt inner ear fluid.
  • Too little Folate has been linked to hearing loss.
  • A lack of Zinc can make it harder for the middle ear to heal from infections.
  • Omega-3s help improve blood supply to the cochlea.

To be honest, there isn’t a whole lot of all of this that I will eat, but I do like cashews, eggs, and does the jelly in a donut count as fruit?

Please keep the following people in your prayers:

  • Jean McMillan
  • Crystal Reinhardt
  • Marie VanNosdall
