RCAHD remembers lives lost and says "Thank you" to public health partners
On March 19, the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts will mark two years since the first local case of COVID-19 was identified. Yesterday, RCAHD held a joint community remembrance to thank and recognize the efforts of our public health partners for their work during the pandemic.
The occasion was also an opportunity to honor the memory of more than 930 local residents who lost their lives to COVID-19. The 900 empty chairs placed on the floor of the Berglund Center served as a jarring reminder of the loss to our communities.
Among the organizations honored were the EMS agencies of our localities in Alleghany, Botetourt, Covington, Craig, Roanoke City and County, Salem, the Virginia Dept of Emergency Management, and the Western VA EMS Council; healthcare providers at Bradley Free Clinic, Carilion, HCA Lewis-Gale, New Horizons, and the Salem VA, the Virginia National Guard, the Medical Reserve Corps, and TheraPets of Roanoke Valley.
