We are so excited to share this news that Clovis' very own James Burns has been selected as one of only 10 people across the country to be named an ADC Defense Community Champion! Thank you, Commissioner Burns, for everything you do for our city and military community – and for garnering national recognition for Clovis!
James Burns Recognized as Defense Community Champion at National Summit
WASHINGTON, D.C., March 10, 2022 – The Association of Defense Communities (ADC) honored James Burns as a Defense Community Champion during its Defense Communities National Summit.

James Burns is one of only 10 awardees across the country to earn the honor, which recognizes those who exceled at creating military-community collaborations that support mission readiness and quality of life for service members, military families, and veterans.

“The inaugural group of Defense Community Champions demonstrates what it takes to serve a community’s military mission, military families and veterans,” ADC President Bob Ross said. “Our national security successes and community connections rely on individuals like James who know how to develop relationships who will help their communities and installations support our military families.”

The award was announced at the Defense Communities National Summit in Arlington, Virginia, near the Pentagon and Washington, D.C.

“I am humbled with this recognition, but the receipt of this award would not be complete without paying tribute to the many others who made these milestones a reality,” James Burns explained. “This award stands for the united spirit of everyone working to support Cannon, meeting challenges together, and continuing to make Clovis a defense community where our military family can thrive.”

“In my 27 years with the Chamber, I have witnessed James’ limitless generosity when dedicating time to improving the quality of life for our military community,” said Ernie Kos, Executive Director for the Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce. “He is a perfect example of how making seemingly simple connections can make all the difference in our joint effort to serve our military community.”

ADC is the connection point for leaders from communities, states, the military and industry on community-military issues and installation management to enhance knowledge, information-sharing and best practices. With nearly 300 communities, states, regions and affiliated industry organization as members, ADC represents every major defense community or state in the nation.
