Reminder: Fill Out The Children’s Trust Provider Supports Survey *
Earlier this month, 5,000 staff of our funded providers received a survey via email from The Children's Trust for input about program quality supports and resources The Trust offers. We spend more than $3 million/year on supports from outside agencies for Trust Academy. This is your chance to tell us what is working and what we can do better. What is most important for your program to be successful in the future? Are we requiring the right training topics and activities?

We need your constructive feedback to improve our offerings. 20 people who complete by May 28 will be randomly selected to win $75 gift cards. It should take less than 30 minutes, and responses are confidential. Check your spam filter if you have not seen your invitation yet.  
UM Team COACH Live Virtual Training: Finding Stress Management Strategies that Work for You *
Months of coping with the stressors of quarantines, shutdowns, losses, uncertainty and anxiety are taking a toll on our emotional health. If you are feeling stressed and overwhelmed, you are not alone! In this virtual training, you will learn and practice strategies to calm your body and mind. We’ll practice different stress reduction techniques so you are able to identify strategies that resonate with you. This training is appropriate for front-line providers serving families and takes place. June 9, 10-11a.m.
UM Team COACH Communities of Practice *
UM Team COACH is now offering various Communities of Practice for Parenting Program providers! Join a community where members support one another, share best practices and deepen their knowledge. All of the following CoPs are appropriate for direct service providers and supervisors of Parenting Programs and are currently being offered virtually. If you have any questions, please contact teamcoach@miami.edu.

Parent Stressors & Barriers - In this CoP, we will be identifying key stressors and barriers your families may currently be facing, as well as identifying and practicing strategies to solve these barriers. Topics will vary. This CoP will be held on the first Wednesday of each month from 11am-12pm. Click here to sign up!

Creating Support Networks & Community Outreach/Recruitment - In this CoP, we will work collaboratively to create networks of outreach and referrals across parenting providers in the community. You will have the opportunity to get to know other community providers, share information, and support one another. Virtual recruitment will be an ongoing topic. UM Team COACH Live Virtual Training: Building the Road to Family Engagement
When families participate actively in parenting programs, they are able to realize the full benefits of services. Yet, families face many barriers to engagement. During this virtual training, you’ll be able to identify at least three tools/strategies to support these families and improve caregiver engagement and retention in your program. This training is appropriate for direct service providers and supervisors of parenting programs. The training takes place Wednesday, May 19, 1-2:30 p.m. via Zoom.

First-Ever Mental Health Walk Happens This Saturday! *
The Children's Trust is sponsoring Miami's first ever Mental Health Walk taking place Saturday, May 22, hosted by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Miami-Dade County. NAMI Miami-Dade is inviting the Miami community to join it for Unity Week this week, with a host of virtual events geared towards providing mental health education and support, whether you need a break during the day to enjoy some Mindfulness Meditation or tune in to learn how you can look out for the youth in your life should they or their friends start to show symptoms of mental health conditions.
Nominations for Champions for Children Awards Now Open
Nominations for the 2021 David Lawrence Jr. Champion for Children Award and the Excellence in Direct Service Award are open and will run until May 30.
Two Drive-Thru Food Relief Events Coming in Late May
Please inform families in your provider network and beyond of two drive-through food distribution events will be held on May 22 or May 29 for hot meals. Those who register to host or attend a www.READySetGoMiami.com workshop in the month of May, will receive an additional goody bag at one of the drive through events. Those who participate in the drive-through must remain in their cars and wear masks at all times. The Drive-Thru Food Relief Program is sponsored by The Children's Trust and the Miami Dolphins Foundation.

Help with Camp is Available for Youth with Disabilities
Summer is a time for fun and vacation, but it can also be challenging to find the right summer camp – especially for children with disabilities who have significant support needs. With many children attending school virtually since last March, summer camp presents a wonderful opportunity for many to ease back into a routine and get ready to return to school this Fall.
 
Thanks to a generous allocation from The Children’s Trust, funding is available to provide supports that create meaningful, safe, and inclusive opportunities at Trust-funded summer camps. This is a highly INDIVIDUALIZED process taking into account the needs of each child or youth.

ELIGIBLE children and young adults have a diagnosed condition, and need significant support in areas that include:

  • Activities of daily living (eating, dressing, using the rest room);
  • Communication;
  • Mobility;
  • Managing health conditions or taking medication; and/or
  • Behaviors that interfere with program participation.

The Advocacy Network on Disabilities Training Opportunities *
Thursday, May 20, 10 a.m.– 1 p.m. A Safe, Live, In-Person Training
Count Me In: Discovering Inclusion for Kids: One of our most popular trainings, come learn fun, meaningful activities to do with your students to build their disability awareness, and encourage them to appreciate differences. This will be a live/in person training event. In order to comply with CDC guidelines for social distancing the number of training registrations will be capped at 18 participants, and only those who pre-register may attend. Face masks will be required at all times during the training.

Florida Department of Children and Families Offers Rental Assistance *
The Department of Children and Families recently launched OUR Florida, the Emergency Rental Assistance Program, that will benefit Floridians who have suffered due to the pandemic’s economic impact on working-class families. OUR Florida, or Opportunities for Utilities and Rental Assistance, is now accepting applications for families in need of aid, regardless of their city of residence, at OURFlorida.com. The program focuses on low-income renters whose household income is at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI), which varies by county. The program will prioritize renters with income at or below 50% AMI and/or families who have experienced unemployment within the past 90 days.

Floridians who rent their homes are eligible if they:
  • Earn an income at or below 80% of the AMI; and
  • Have qualified for unemployment, experienced a loss of income, incurred significant costs or faced financial hardships due to the recent public health emergency; and
  • Are at risk of losing their home or are living in unstable or unhealthy conditions.

The Kristi House Project GOLD South Clinical Site Manager is responsible for carrying out the daily operations of the South Drop In Center. Family Advocate *
Bachelor’s degree level position designed to provide case coordination services to child trauma victims and their families based in the community. Responsible for performing all case coordination functions to ensure that the children's and family's needs are met. Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology preferred. 1-year experience working with child victims of trauma or related population preferred.

Therapist *
This Master’s level (licensed or unlicensed), full-time, therapy position is designed to provide comprehensive services to youth who are victims or at risk of sexual exploitation and their non-offending caregivers. Master's Degree must be from an accredited university in Clinical Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy. Minimum of 1 year Masters level experience working with at-risk or trauma exposed (sexual abuse and HT/CSEC preferred) youth and their families.
