JOIN US FOR AN EXCLUSIVE MEMBERS-ONLY DIGITAL EVENT ADVERTISING THE UNITED STATES:
A Panel Discussion Examining the SS United States in the Ad Age
Since her maiden voyage in 1952, the SS United States has been an icon of American culture and a global ambassador for the nation. She is also associated with the dawn of the Ad Age. While the United States was steaming back and forth between New York and Europe, advertisers were using this American symbol to reach people in new and innovative ways.

Our first digital exhibition, Advertising the United States: Discovering America’s Flagship through Prints, Posters, and Advertisements offers visitors a look at the intricate, exciting, and oftentimes beautiful visualizations of the SS United States in advertising. The digital exhibition also explores how these advertisements effect our understanding, experience, and memory of the SS United States and her namesake nation.

To celebrate the launch of this digital exhibition, the Conservancy will be hosting a special members-only digital event on Sunday, May 2 at 4:30pm EST featuring a panel discussion about the exhibit. This event is open to those who have donated to the Conservancy and are active members. The panel discussion will focus on the creation of the digital exhibition, the themes highlighted in the advertisements, and how the advertisements shaped our understanding of "America's Flagship" and the era in which she sailed. It will also feature a Q&A discussion with members of the audience.

We are offering this special event as a thank you to Conservancy members like you who continue to support our efforts to preserve the SS United States for future generations. Please click the link below to register. We hope you can join us and we are deeply grateful for your continued support.
