March 2022
Happy Women’s History Month! March is dedicated to reflect on the often-overlooked contributions of women to United States history.

The 2022 theme is "Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope." This theme is both a tribute to the ceaseless work of caregivers and frontline workers during this ongoing pandemic and also a recognition of the thousands of ways that women of all cultures have provided both healing and hope throughout history.

Below are some activities you can do with your mentee to celebrate Women's History Month!
Learn about the History of Women's History Month

Women’s History Month is a celebration of women’s contributions to history, culture and society and has been observed annually in the month of March in the United States since 1987.

Learn about
Women in STEM

Watch this TED Talk about the first black woman to earn a PhD in astrophysics from Yale, and have a discussion with your mentee about what you learned.
Write a Note to a Woman Who Inspires You

Bring some pens, markers and cute stationary to your next mentoring session! During the session, discuss with your mentee the different women in your lives that inspire you (Mom, teacher, friend, counselor, etc.). After discussing, you should each write a meaningful letter to 1 or 2 of the women you talked about, and let them know how much you admire them.
Mentor of the Month

How did you become involved with mentoring through Hillsborough Education Foundation?
A few friends of mine are mentors, and they told me how awesome the Take Stock program is, so I decided to become a mentor myself!

What has been the most rewarding part of mentoring?
Because my mentee is on the quiet side, it has been really rewarding to watch him slowly begin to open up.

What do you believe is the key to being a quality mentor?
I believe the key to being a quality mentor is patience, consistency, and being an active listener.
When you are not working with students, how do you prefer to spend your free time?
I spend my free time hanging out with friends, producing music and long boarding.

What do you hope your mentee will learn from you?
I hope my mentee will learn how to be a better communicator so he is able to advocate for himself.
