Programs for your classroom:

Happy holidays from the Committee of Seventy! We hope you can enjoy some well-earned relaxation before the spring semester begins.

2024 promises to be a big year in Pennsylvania politics. It will be a great opportunity to bring experiential civics education to your classroom.

If you want to be proactive in your planning, C70 has a suite of resources to help you navigate this upcoming election cycle. This includes our Election 101 lesson, Elections & Voting curriculum, Youth Mock Election, Can We Talk? civil dialogue program, Studio C70 candidate interviews, and Democracy for Kids for K-8 students.

We also provide Act 48 hours and stipends for extended engagement with these programs. Reply to this email with any questions.

Resources from the PA Civics Coalition

The PA Civics coalition provides educators with helpful resources to enhance civics education in your classroom. Several partners have active opportunities for you to take advantage of:

The CivXNow coalition works year-round to strengthen K–12 civic education policies at the local, state, and federal levels. They recently announced their new Teacher Advocacy Project (TAP), where teachers can join a grassroots network of educators who are trained to advocate for civics at the local, state, and federal levels. CivXNow is recruiting educators and developing training materials to assist with advocacy. With the support of PA Civics, five teachers from four counties have already signed up from Pennsylvania. Reach out to CivXNow if you're interested.

PA Youth Vote has published "youth voter toolkits" for teachers and organizations to use in classrooms and community meetings. Each kit is comprised of a slide deck and one-sheet printable handout. They include offices and candidates likely to be on the ballot in 2024, how to register to vote, how to research candidates using nonpartisan voter guides, and how students can get paid to work the polls on Election Day. These resources are nonpartisan and free for anyone to use. View their statewide toolkit or the Philadelphia-specific toolkit. They are producing other county-specific toolkits as well.

Civic Learning Week is March 11 - 15. As part of the week-long celebration, C70 will be participating in PA Civics' "Prepping for the Primary" series. Look for programming announcements soon.
