WEEK 1: January 12 - 19, 2024


This is your own personal journey. To participate, we ask that you complete at least 3 activities this week. You can use the ARC Tracking tool below to monitor your progress. Choose from of the following:


  • VISIT: Moremen Gallery "Perspectives" exhibit of over 30 local and regional African American artists. Moremen Gallery 710 W. Main, Suite 201 (Next to Proof on Main and 21C, across from KMAC). On View through January 2024.


  • WATCH: Stamped from the Beginning on Netflix. Using innovative animation and expert insights, this documentary, based on Ibram X. Kendi's bestseller explores the history of racist ideas in America. Watch the trailer here: Stamped from the Beginning


  • ATTEND: Another, even better option (to the above) is to watch the film and join a panel discussion directly afterward with Dr. Ricky Jones and other scholars at St. Stephens Church, 1018 S. 15th Street, Louisville. 5:00 p.m. January 16. Panel discussion follows at 6:30 p.m. **You can also watch the film on your own then watch the live panel discussion on St. Stephens’ Facebook or YouTube page. 


  • LEARN: About how the descendants of the man who commissioned the last known slave ship, The Clotilda, are working to make amends. With Anderson Cooper. 60-Minutes clip


  • READ: “Confronting racism is not about the needs and feelings of white people,” The Guardian The Guardian article


  • LISTEN: To this podcast with Kyle Kramer, CEO of the Earth and Spirit Center as he talks with Di and Tom Kerrigan about how compassion moves us into action for justice (this discussion begins at minute 13:00). Podcast


  • ATTEND: The Color of Compromise: A Celebration of Historical Truth-Telling with Dr. Jemar Tisby on January 20th at 7:00 pm at the Speed Art Museum.   • LEARN: About the 1968 story that made national news–of the “Louisville Rebellion,” against police brutality which led to the arrest of “The Black Six.” The Black Six


  • CELEBRATE: "The Keepers of the Dream Freedom Award" given to citizens who best exemplify the ideals of Dr. King's vision. The free event serves as a time for the community to come together and reflect on past struggles while celebrating forward progress towards a brighter future. At The Kentucky Center, 501 W.
