A Godly Nation

๐Ÿ“บ๏ธ Psalm 114 ๐Ÿ”Š

 1When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language;

 2Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion.

 3The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back.

 4The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs.

 5What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back?

 6Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams; and ye little hills, like lambs?

 7Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob;

 8Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters.

Psalms 114 Commentary

(114:7) Mount Sinai - When God gave the law at Mount Sinai, the mountain trembled in God's presence. Even with our great technology the seas, rivers, and mountains still present us with formidable challenges. But to God, who controls nature, they are like nothing. When observing the power of an ocean wave or the majesty of a mountain peak, think of God's greatness and glory, which are far more awesome than the natural wonders you can see. To tremble at God's presence means to recognize God's complete power and authority and our frailty by comparison.

Each day we walk through the Bible chapter by chapter making an application of our text to help us grow in the Lord. Many applications can be made from each day's text. Today, we continue in the Book of Psalms with Chapter 114. In our text today, we see the theme of encouraging others or a nation to fear the Lord to reap the benefits of a Godly nation, as Israel came out of Egypt due to its fear of the Lord. In making an application, we see that if a nation fears the Lord, it too will see the favor of God. As individuals, we need to be active in the political system. Letting our voices be heard, we can collectively fear the Lord and see the favor of God for our nation. How about you? Are you active in your political system? Let us learn from our Psalm and text today to remember that we have a role in a nation that can fear God and see God's Favor in a Nation.

Closing Prayer

Father in the Name and through the Blood of Jesus we pray that we would Take Today's Reading of Your Word and Give Us Understanding of Its Text, that You Apply this Word to Our Lives, and that you would help us grow in You. Father, Finally we Pray for Your Kingdom to come, that Your Will to be Done here on Earth as it is in Heaven. That You would Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen
